All the products recalled at Target, Walmart, Trader Joe's and more amid salmonella outbreak

Various supermarket chains across the United States have issued product recalls amid the ongoing Salmonella outbreak, with Kroger, Whole Foods, and Walmart among the most affected.

Health officials have reported that 345 people across the country have been struck down by the foodborne illness. There are currently no fatalities, but at least 36 sufferers across 27 states in the South, West, and Midwest have been admitted to hospitals.

Experts at the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have warned that the true number of sick people is ‘likely much higher than the number reported’ as many people recover without medical care and are not tested for Salmonella.

Investigators probing the report believe illnesses are linked to jalapeños sourced from Coast Citrus Distributors in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Health concerns relating to the peppers started on dates ranging from 19 June to 20 July, as per the American Academy of Paediatrics.

Taylor Fresh Foods has also recalled jalapeño peppers. The recall includes whole peppers and products such as burritos, bowls, guacamole, sandwiches, salsas, salads, and wraps.

Meanwhile, Chipotle Mexican Grill and QDOBA have stopped serving affected jalapeño peppers to customers. The CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have confirmed that there is no risk from these establishments to consumers in this outbreak.

Target

Five products sold at various Target stores in Florida, Ohio and Texas have been recalled, including:

• 20oz pots of Taco Dip with use by dates 12 and 13 August.
• 11oz Mango Pico De Gallo with use by dates from 8 to 13 August.
• 13oz Authentic Guacamole with use by dates from 7 to 14 August
• 16oz Pico de Gallo sold in Texas with from 7 to 14 August has been recalled
• 13oz Spicy Guacamole pots with use by dates from 7 to 13 August.

Trader Joe’s

The Trader Joe's Fiesta Salad has been recalled (Trader Joe's)

Fiesta Salad with Shrimp is being recalled as the salsa may have been prepared with recalled jalapeño peppers, according to a notice.

The item, sold across Los Angeles, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Colorado, carries use by dates from 7 August to 18 December.

An FDA notice confirmed that there are only two Walmart products included in the recall, both of which come from the chain’s ‘Freshness Guaranteed Range’.

Hot (or Spicy) Pico De Gallo Spicy 10oz labelled sell by dates between 8 and 16 August have been removed from sale, as have Mild Pico De Gallo 10oz.

These were apparently sold at select Walmart stores in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Los Angeles, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Whole Foods

Numerous guacamole pots have been recalled by Whole Foods (Whole Foods)

Whole Foods have recalled more than 40 fresh food items in varying sizes amid the Salmonella outbreak.

The products were distributed across Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Anyone in the 12 states affected by the abundance of Whole Foods recalls is advised to discard the product and bring their receipts to stores for a full refund.

"Nothing matters more to us than our customers' safety. We've pulled all recalled products from our shelves. Customers who purchased any of these products from us should throw them away and contact us for a refund,” Kristen Orsborn, a spokesperson for Whole Foods Market, told USA Today.

Hannaford

Due to the potential for Salmonella contamination, Hannaford has issued recalls for six products.

This includes: 3.75oz diced jalapeños and 7oz Pico De Gallo Salsa, both with use-by dates between 9 and 14 August.

Three burritos and a single wrap have been also recalled:

• Beans Rice and Cheese Burrito - use by dates 7 to 11 August
• Classic Beef Burrito - use by dates 7 to 12 August
• Chicken Verde Burrito - use by dates 7 to 10 August
• Chipotle Chicken Tortilla - use by dates 7 to 10 August

"Hannaford is committed to delivering fresh, quality food to our customers and ensuring the safety of the products we sell is our highest priority," the company wrote in a statement.

"All Hannaford stores follow strict food safety protocols. We take this work very seriously and are fully committed to delivering safe and wholesome food to our customers. We will continue to closely monitor the situation in partnership with our suppliers and regulatory agencies.”

Items were distributed across Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont, as per The Hill.

Kroger

Much like Hannaford, Kroger stores are recalling six items, all of which have sell-by dates listed from 7 to 16 August.

The recalls are impacting stores in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Ohio, Virginia, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri, among others.

Due to products potentially being contaminated with Salmonella, Kroger shoppers are advised to avoid main meals and sides such as:

• Deli Kitchen Chipotle Cheddar Chicken Wrap
• PRSL Spicy Roast Beef Sandwich.
• Deli Kitchen Blackened Chicken, Mashed Potatoes and Corn
• Kroger’s Enchiladas Family Meal,
• Jalapeno Jarlsberg Dip
• Spicy Pimento Cheese Dip.
