Meghan Markle defended after MasterChef viewers left 'outraged' by guest judge appearance

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has allegedly ‘outraged’ some MasterChef fans after her surprise guest judge appearance aired. However, many social media users and fans alike are in her corner, claiming there was ‘absolutely nothing controversial’ about the episode.

Last April, Meghan Markle, 44, and her husband, Harry, Duke of Sussex, headed to Australia for a four-day tour where she secretly appeared on MasterChef Australia in Melbourne.

The instalment saw the royal admitting that grilled fish was one of her favourite dishes to make, whilst her husband favoured ‘meat, potatoes and cream sauce’.

During the show, Meghan was randomly handed a phone, only to find that her spouse was on the other end.

After introducing the Prince to her fellow judges, Meghan informed him that he’d interrupted a food tasting and that contestant Aaron Kher, 32, was awaiting her verdict.

“It’s amazing; they’re so talented,” the mother-of-two gushed about Kher and his fellow competitors.

“We wish you were here… I wish you could try this; these dishes are fantastic.

The couple then joked about Prince Harry’s lack of penchant for spicy food before he apologised for disturbing the set.

“All is well here, and I’ll see you later,” he signed off.

Kher said that the cold phone call was ‘crazy’ whilst his fellow MasterChef Australia crewmates and audience members began clapping.

However, it appeared that viewers were divided over the segment, with one person calling it ‘pretty cringe’.

“Planned they are so obvious,” complained someone else, while a third added: “Utterly cringeworthy for Royalty.”

Others have fiercely defended the Duchess, who said ‘I do’ to her husband back in May 2018.

“Prince Harry and Meghan will always do whatever it takes to show up and support one another and it’s one of the reasons their marriage is so successful,” typed one fan.

A second retorted: “The MasterChef commentary from the Meghan Markle haters is some unhinged b*****it. I am not a fan & thought it would be a pretty weird episode, but she was a pretty good judge, better than Andy. And in terms of celebrity appearances she did well, a LOT better than Katy Perry.”

“People are waking up or have spent all night mad over Meghan's MasterChef Australia appearance & writing hate stories, but Meghan couldn't care less,” another claimed.

“While they waste their time raging, she’s out here enjoying California, buying plants, & living her absolute best life.”

A third claimed: “There is absolutely nothing controversial about Meghan's MasterChef Australia episode; no histrionics or nastiness.

“But it's Meghan and so the usual (overwhelmingly white and female) suspects in the media have to find something to be outraged about. Such tiresome b****es.”

Meghan, who stepped down as a senior working royal with Harry in 2020, recently celebrated her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, securing a Daytime Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Lifestyle Program category.

“A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on ‘With Love, Meghan’ on @netflix,” she wrote.

Series three of the programme is not going ahead at Netflix. Instead, With Love, Meghan is expected to continue as seasonal specials, a spokesperson for the Sussexes told Variety earlier this year.
