Protein goals just got easier with McDonald's new breakfast items

McDonald’s is bringing back its World Menu Heist this September, giving British customers another chance to raid the chain’s international menus without having to book a flight.

Fans are delighted that for the first time, McDonald’s has introduced some new breakfast items with the Heist menu.

For those chasing their protein goals, these will be welcome additions, with a Chicken & Egg McMuffin and a Chicken & Bacon McMuffin, both from Australia.

Breakfast fans who have wished for all-day hash browns will also be delighted by Germany’s Big Rösti burger, which one social media commenter excitedly dubbed as featuring ‘a giant hash brown’

The second edition arrives in UK restaurants from 22 September, with food and drinks inspired by seven countries, including Germany, Canada, Australia, India, China, the Netherlands and the UAE.

As well as the new breakfast items, there is a range of burgers, fries, a McFlurry, a dipping sauce and a tropical soft drink.

Here is the full rundown of what has been ‘heisted’ for British diners this time around.

Chicken & Egg McMuffin - Australia

Breakfast gets its first World Menu Heist additions this year, starting with Australia's Chicken & Egg McMuffin. It replaces the familiar sausage or bacon centre with crispy coated chicken, alongside egg, mayonnaise and cheese in a toasted English muffin.

Chicken & Bacon McMuffin - Australia

The second Australian breakfast import keeps the crispy coated chicken but adds bacon alongside it. It also contains mayonnaise and a cheese slice, with everything served in a toasted English muffin.

Big Rösti - Germany

The Big Rösti is probably the most loaded burger in this year’s haul.

It combines a British and Irish beef patty with a crispy potato rösti, streaky bacon, a cheese slice, creamy baconnaise and cheese sauce, all inside a toasted glazed sesame bun.

It will be available from 22 September until 19 October.

One happy fan called it ‘the best menu ever’ while another simply wrote ‘YES, more hash browns!’

Maple & Cheddar Chicken - Canada

Canada’s contribution is a crispy chicken sandwich built around a 100% chicken breast fillet, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and onions in two forms.

The unusual part is the sauce, which sees mustard maple sauce paired with citrus mayonnaise, giving the burger a sweet-and-savoury angle.

It comes in a toasted poppy and sesame seed bun.

Like the Big Rösti, it is one of the shorter-lived additions, running from 22 September to 19 October.

Mac & Cheese Triangles - UAE

This is the comeback story of the menu.

The Mac & Cheese Triangles appeared during the first World Menu Heist and are returning after what McDonald’s describes as a ‘hugely successful’ appearance.

They are breadcrumb-coated triangular bites filled with macaroni and cheddar cheese sauce, served with tomato ketchup for dipping.

They will also remain available until 16 November.

“Yayyyyy the Mac 'n' Cheese Bites are back! I loved those last year. Wish they'd make them permanent,” one commenter wrote.

Paprika McShaker Fries - Netherlands

The humble McDonald’s fry gets a Dutch makeover with a smoky paprika seasoning sachet. Customers receive the seasoning separately with a shaker bag, tip it over the fries and shake everything together.

McDonald’s describes the result as a ‘bold, irresistibly moreish paprika flavour’.

S’mores McFlurry - Canada

The S’mores McFlurry is the dessert that has attracted plenty of attention. It uses soft dairy ice cream mixed with marshmallows and biscuit crumb, then topped with chocolate sauce. In other words, it takes the familiar campfire combination of chocolate, biscuit and marshmallow and puts it into McFlurry form. One fan dubbed the flavour ‘10/10’.

Szechuan Sauce - China

Szechuan Sauce is perhaps the smallest item on the menu but one of the most talked-about. McDonald’s describes it as a sweet-and-savoury, Asian-inspired sauce with mild Szechuan pepper heat, intended for dipping, dunking or adding extra flavour to food.

Many people associate it with the animated series Rick and Morty, which helped turn the sauce into something of an internet obsession years ago. One commenter wrote, “Lowkey waited 10 years to try that stuff.”

Guava x Sprite Zero - India

The unusual drink in the line-up is Guava x Sprite Zero, inspired by McDonald’s India. It combines Sprite Zero with guava-flavoured syrup and is served over ice.
