McDonald’s customers have been left less than impressed after learning a fan-favourite staple has been quietly axed from its breakfast menu, with some calling its omission ‘one of the biggest travesties of our times’.
For some, nothing says Saturday morning like a good scran at McDonald’s. While some keep it classic with a Breakfast Wrap, others like to dip into a bag of salty Hash Browns while slurping down on a hot, foamy cappuccino.
Let’s face it, we’ve all got our go-to combination - but what happens when you learn your treasured choice is randomly unavailable one day?
Well, for many McDonald’s fans, that’s become their reality after a popular item was taken away from them.

Taking to social media to air their grievances, numerous eaters have confessed they're turning away from their local restaurants, feeling forced to go elsewhere.

“No bacon roll at @McDonalds anymore... Guess it's @GreggsOfficial for breakfast in future,” reported one X user.
“@McDonaldsUK bring back the bacon roll … I went to my local McDonald's yesterday to find it was kicked from the menu, WHY?! Why can’t u keep it on there and add the sausage one,” another lamented. “That's absolutely ridiculous. I had to go to Greggs to get a bacon roll. I wanted a McDonald's one.”

A third typed, in all capitals: “What do you mean McDonald’s has took their most popular breakfast item off the menu??? Bacon Roll come back to me.”
A fourth alleged: “McDonalds doing away with the bacon roll meal on their new menu is one of the biggest travesties of our times.”
On 23 October, The Sun confirmed that the cooperation had cancelled the humble Bacon Roll, which had been revamped with a new recipe back in 2019.
McDonald’s claimed that while the breakfast sandwich was ‘gone’, it would not be ‘forgotten’.

The good news is that if you are already mourning the loss of the meaty delight, then you do have some more fast-food options.
Like many social media users have already pointed out, the Greggs Breakfast Roll is still going strong.
Containing three rashers of oven-baked bacon, the sandwich comes in a soft, white breakfast roll and can be customised with HP Sauce or Heinz Tomato Ketchup.

You can upgrade your roll to a crusty baguette, which is baked fresh in-store every single day, too.
Subway also offers a classic bacon sandwich, while American chain Popeye’s sells the Big Cajun Roll, consisting of a sausage patty, Cajun Hash Brown, egg, bacon rashers, Cajun Ketchup, and cheese, all packed into a bun.
If you're too loyal to McDonald's to look elsewhere, try McMuffins, the new Sausage Sandwich, and Cheesy Bacon Flatbread, all of which are still available until 11am.
Sweet options include Pancakes and Syrup, and Porridge with sugar, strawberry jam, or Lyle's Golden Syrup.

The Bacon Roll’s cancellation came a month after the burger chain announced the Breakfast Roll would be pulled from eateries across the country.
Arriving on the scene in 2020, the Breakfast Roll included smoky bacon, a juicy sausage patty, melted cheese, and a free-range egg, all served in a warm white roll.
Like other items, you were able to customise this with ketchup or brown sauce.
In a comment, a spokesperson told Birmingham Live: “We're always evolving our menu with our customers in mind to keep things fresh and exciting.”
