Carnival Cruise Line is tempting sweet-tooths at sea with a brand-new breakfast offering: fresh, made-to-order doughnuts.
But before you get too excited, there’s a twist - these treats come with a price tag, and cruisers are not holding back their reactions.
The doughnut line-up is decadent: cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, Boston cream, and classic glazed. Each is made fresh, fried on board, and described as 'light, fluffy, and featuring New Orleans flavor.'
If doughnuts alone aren’t enough, guests can also indulge in golden churros dusted with cinnamon sugar and beignets served with powdered sugar, strawberry, and chocolate dipping sauces.

Pricing is where the controversy kicks in: $2 gets you two doughnuts, or five for $8. Churros are $3 for five or $5 for ten, while beignets are $3.50 for four. There’s also a $7 breakfast combo that includes two doughnuts and four beignets. Essentially, your sweet breakfast dreams come with a mini wallet workout.
While the offerings sound irresistible, guests aren’t thrilled about paying extra.
One cruiser lamented, “Adding a simple food like doughnuts but charging for them is not a good look.” Another exclaimed, “I paid almost $3,000 for a cruise, and I have to pay extra for donuts?!” The sentiment is clear: when you’re already shelling out big bucks for a cruise, surprises on the bill - even for doughnuts - leave a bitter taste.

Currently, these sweet treats are available on select Carnival ships, including the Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, and Carnival Jubilee. Depending on the ship, you’ll find them at Street Eats, Sweet Spot, or Seafood Shack. Carnival plans to expand availability fleetwide, so more cruisers can soon get their hands on these sugary delights.
Carnival’s doughnut rollout is a fun and indulgent twist to breakfast at sea - but the 'pay-to-play' approach has sparked mixed reviews. While some guests are excited to try freshly fried doughnuts and beignets, others feel the extra cost is a sour note in an otherwise sweet experience.
If you’re cruising soon and your sweet tooth is calling, just remember: at Carnival, those doughnuts don’t come free.
