Walkers is set to blow the sharing crisp category out of the water with its brand-new Gold range—here’s everything you need to know, including the first handful of flavours available.
It’s been a tough year for supermarket snacks: Tyrell’s announced it was shutting down vegetable crisp production, claiming the decision had been made due to a ‘sustained’ decline in demand as well as ‘the loss of key export volumes’; Gentleman’s Relish was axed despite campaigners demanding its revival, and KP Snacks waved farewell to its pub-favoured crisp brand after more than 50 years.
But if you thought this was the end of snacking, think again! Walkers has announced plans to launch a premium range in the UK, as reported by Metro.
The potato crisp range, known as Walkers Gold, is said to have been ‘crafted to make any occasion special’ and ‘give everyone a little bit of gold inside’.

Shoppers can pick up 140g sharing Walkers Gold bags in three flavours: Sea Salt and Olive Oil, Somerset Mature Cheddar and Onion, and a moreish Black Truffle.
Rivalling Kettle Chips and Tyrrells, Walkers Gold cost £2 and are exclusively on sale on Ocado.
Not an Ocado shopper? You will miss out on being one of the first to try the new crisp range, and you will also not be able to grab any products from Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm Range.
Other supermarkets are set to start stocking Walkers Gold, which is ‘slow-cooked for more crunch and character’, from 12 October.
They will carry an RRP of £1.50, according to Metro.
Speaking about the ‘indulgent’ new crisps, Wayne Newton, senior marketing director of Walkers Snacks, told the outlet: “The Walkers Gold Range has officially arrived, bringing a little extra luxury to the crisp aisle.

“Designed for those moments when you want to make snacking feel a little more special, whether hosting friends and family in the run-up to Christmas or as a perfect pre-dinner party snack, Walkers Gold is the perfect occasion crisp.”
He continued: “Anyone looking to try the new range can order a packet online at Ocado now, and nationwide from 12 October. We hope they enjoy them as much as we do!’
Walkers updated logo earlier this year
In January, Walkers officially updated its logo for the first time in almost 80 years.
The new ‘sun-inspired’ design was hailed as a ‘landmark’ moment for the brand by Newton.
“For the first time in many years, we are bringing a completely new visual identity to the brand – one that champions our heritage, elevates the message around the use of our quality ingredients, and injects new energy into the category,” he said.
Walkers confirms cult favourite crisps are gone for good
You may have missed it, but the cult brand previously announced that Smith's Tomato Snaps, which have been hailed as 'top tier' snacks in some online rankings, were gone for good.
A spokesperson for PepsiCo, which owns Walkers, said at the time: "Smith's Tomato Snaps have had a great run and will always hold a special place in our history, but evolving our portfolio allows us to focus on making more of the brands and flavours people love."
They added: "We know that fans of Snaps will be sad to see them go, and we'd like to thank them for giving the brand their support over the years."
