Popular bakery chain mysteriously disappears from UK

So long and thanks for all the buns.

We’re being spoiled in the UK with an influx of beloved international food brands each vying for our insatiable appetite for goodies.

The advent of Wing Stop, Dave’s Hot Chicken, Popeye’s, Chick-fil-A and Raising Cane’s, to name a few, speak to the strength of the UK market where fast food is concerned.

However, the dessert side of things seems considerably less busy, and it seems we’ve actually lost a big name without much fanfare.

Visitors to Westfield Stratford City will likely have encountered one brand’s now-absent kiosk either by sight or smell, and it’s mysteriously vanished.

That brand is Cinnabon, a beloved bakery chain hailing from the US. Its wide range of cinnamon buns, topped with anything from thick icing to nuts, Oreos and Biscoff, first hit the UK in December 2020.

Since then, it has opened several more stores around the UK and had planned to open 150 around the isles.

The brand didn’t quite reach 20 stores before its plans started to get pared back. In 2025, its store count sat at 12 across London, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Chester and Derby.

Now it seems that one of its London locations has been scrapped as fans have noticed the Westfield kiosk is no more.

Unfortunately it seems like part of a wider move, with a spokesperson confirming to Metro that Cinnabon is abandoning ship where the UK is concerned.

EG On the Move partnered with Cinnabon to launch the brand across the UK, and a spokesperson from there spoke to Metro to confirm the sad news.

“EG On The Move has made the strategic decision to close all Cinnabon locations operated in the UK,” they said.

“This was not a decision taken lightly, but it reflects the strategic shift to focus on our core convenience retail business.

“This decision aligns with our wider business strategy to focus on areas where we can deliver the greatest value to our customers.”

They continued: “We extend our sincere thanks to our team members for their dedication, to the Cinnabon brand team for their ongoing partnership, and to our customers for their loyalty and support.

“EG On The Move remains committed to providing exceptional food and retail experiences across our 150-site network, and we will continue to invest in evolving our offerings to meet changing customer needs.

It’s a sad day for the sweet-toothed among us, but at least we’re flush with options where fried chicken is concerned.
