Banana bread flavour Snickers launching this week for autumn

If you thought banana bread had finally had its time in the sun, Snickers has other ideas.

The chocolate bar brand is launching a new Banana Nut Bread flavour this week, combining its familiar mix of peanuts, caramel and milk chocolate with an unusual sounding banana-flavoured nougat.

The bad news is, it's only available in the US, and it's limited-edition, so don't get too attached.

If you're missing the days of baking loaves weekly over the Covid shutdown, you can have a taste of banana bread without the mess of baking it yourself.

The new bar will be in Walgreens from September 18, and it's exclusive to the chain.

As autumn arrives, banana bread tends to reappear alongside the season's more indulgent bakes like pumpkin pie and cinnamon bun flavoured crossovers, but Snickers went for the slightly more subtle version for this seasonal release.

Sadly there's no word yet on if there'll be a UK launch, so British fans will have to admire from afar for now.

Banana, peanuts and chocolate all go well together, so it shouldn't be a surprise that Snickers has blended them into one bar.

According to Delish, the banana bread flavour comes through the nougat, leaving the rest of the Snickers formula intact.

There's still a lot of caramel, peanuts and milk chocolate in the mix, with the banana element added to the soft centre.

The big question is what that banana will actually taste like?

Will it have the flavour of ripe banana, the sweeter artificial taste found in banana sweets, or will it be subtle enough to disappear beneath the caramel and peanuts?

This isn't the first time Snickers has experimented with a classic.

Previous variations have included almond versions and a cinnamon bun flavour, so a dessert-inspired bar is hardly unprecedented.

Shoppers are already looking at making it into a banana bread based version of Inception, it seems.

“Is it that bad I wanna to chill these then chop up and add to banana bread batter. Then bake it,” one Instagram user wrote.

No, no it's not bad.

Another commenter wrote excitedly: “I want anything and everything banana flavored.”

Someone else appeared ready to make an immediate trip to Walgreens, writing: “Say less. I swear to god I’ll leave work now just to get one.”

"I’m not a fan of Snickers usually but for banana flavor....SIGN ME UP!” confessed another, while one joked "Banana nut bread hired a PR agent."

There was also excitement from banana-flavour fans who felt the US had taken its time embracing the taste.

One commenter said the new release was 'making up for lost time!!!!' although whether a banana-flavoured Snickers can really settle that particular score remains to be seen.

Another lucky person who managed to get their hands on one already declared it tastes 'much like a regular Snickers with a light banana flavour', so if you're hoping for a strong hit of banana you might be disappointed.
