A trip to Disneyland is a notoriously expensive holiday, such that a visit is seen as a once-in-a-lifetime treat for a lot of us.
The cost of getting over to one of the parks, the hotel fees, and park entry cost a pretty penny in and of themselves, but the costs don’t stop there.
If you want to eat in the parks – and let’s face it, there’s not much of an option there – or pick up some merchandise for you or the little ones then you’d best be prepared to cough up on the regular.
Even knowing all that, it’s easy to get caught out by some big price tags in Mickey Mouse’s various magic kingdoms.
One family of five discovered that the hard way after sitting down for a breakfast that ended up costing the best part of a grand.

The father and his family opted for the ‘Princess Breakfast’ at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, and the receipt makes for difficult reading.
Posting to his X account, @jrockandrollt, on June 16th 2025, he said he ‘almost spit out [his] coffee’ at the $937.65 (£689) charge which included a $150 (£110) tip.
The Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures dining experience at the Anaheim, California park features three courses and entertainment from various Disney princesses.
Its first course features a tower of appetisers, including lobster rolls, cornbread and beignets. The main course features a choice of chicken and Mickey Mouse-shaped waffles or mac and cheese for the kids, while adults can tuck into braised short ribs, truffle mac and cheese, or devilled eggs.
For dessert, you’d get cream puffs, sorbets, and a selection of other treats.
Prices start at $142 for grown-ups and kids aged 3 to 9, and that’s before tips and tax.
The tweet featuring Tolkien’s bill has been seen over 17 million times as of June 24th, with the X user saying the meal covered two kids and three adults. One person also had a Bloody Mary, which is a frankly odd choice for a breakfast beverage..
“If I find that goddamn mouse I am going to mug him,” he said in the comments.
While it cost a bomb, Tolkien admitted it was worth it.
“Kids enjoyed it, so I think it was worth it,” he said. “The kids definitely learned some new words when I opened the bill though.”
He added: “Service was attentive and enthusiastic, princesses were all trained pro actresses and spent a lot of time with the kids. I enjoyed it.”
While some commenters were positive about his swallowing the cost, others were incredulous at his shock.
“Bro they tell you the price when you book, if you're surprised that's on you,” said one comment, to which Tolkien said he’d neither placed the booking himself nor looked at the menu in advance.
To be fair, if you see lobster rolls served in a starter, you can’t be surprised when you get charged an arm and a leg.
