Everyone's desperate for Nestlé to bring back iconic chocolate bar

One social media user said they were the 'crème de la crème' of confectionary

Would you believe us if we told you the average Brit will consume a jaw-dropping 7,560 chocolate bars in their lifetime? That’s equivalent to around one to eight bars per person, per week, according to The British Heart Foundation.

Your weapon of choice may be a Snickers, a slab of good old Cadbury’s milk chocolate, or a classic, coconut Bounty paired with a strong cup of English breakfast tea.

Or, perhaps you like to try the latest craze, with Dubai-style Chocolate topping your theoretical ‘favourite foods of 2025’ list’

If you’re someone who likes to sample new products, then you’ll be pleased to hear that Kinder has brought its Dark Chocolate Bueno back to grocery stores this year.

And although fans were excited for the re-launch when we reported on it, others were hoping it was another chocolate bar entirely returning to the UK market.

The beloved bar which some Facebook users were crossing their fingers to have a comeback was the Nestlé Drifter.

The sweet snack was launched in the 1980s and is often described as a Twix-Kit-Kat hybrid.

After its initial discontinuation in 2007, the Drifter was brought back a year later, but was retired once again in 2018.

According to Nestlé, the treat was put on permanent hiatus due to ‘changing consumer preferences’.

Despite it being away from supermarket shelves for the best part of a decade, fans consistently post about it on social media, pleading with the business to ‘bring it back’.

“Please could you consider bringing back these great chocolate bar please,” said one X user in 2024.

“Drifters are the crème de la crème,” wrote someone else on Facebook.

Another commented: “Best chocolate bar ever. Petition to bring it back?!”

People apparently love Drifters so much that there’s even a designated petition for Nestlé to bring the wafer biscuit bar back.

However, there’s bad news - the confectionary business admitted last year that there are ‘no plans to bring it back’.

“Drifter bars were last available in 2018 when it was delisted due to changing consumer preferences. Of course, confectionery tastes and trends change all the time,” a spokesperson told The Resident.

"Nestlé confectionery has announced an exciting line of new products for 2025, including Rowntree’s Jelly Tots Tangy flavour and KitKat Hazelnut four finger bars.”

Earlier this month (January 15), the Swiss-headquartered company announced a brand-new partnership with Formula One.

The new Kit-Kat F1 Milk Chocolate Bar from the sweetie giant features ‘smooth milk chocolate shell with creamy filling and embedded crispy cereal pieces’.

Each takes the shape of a race car, and is part of Nestlé’s ‘Breaks for Good’ programme, which is helping to support cocoa-farming communities.

“Crafted in the iconic shape of a Formula 1 car and inspired by the thrill of both Formula 1 and the KitKat break, this treat has been made for fans who crave excitement both on and off the track,” said Scott Coles, Managing Director for Nestlé Confectionery in the UK and Ireland.

“We want to bring exhilarating F1 breaks to everyone. KitKat's always been about those feel-good breaks and now, much like those crucial pit stops during any F1 race, we want KitKat fans to hit that pause button, making it even easier to disconnect and re-charge.”

The F1 Kit-Kats are available to purchase now and come in single 29g and multi-packs.
