‘Devastated’ shoppers reportedly rocked up to their local M&S bakery section this week, only to find their go-to sweet treats were missing. The supermarket chain has since released a statement, informing ‘heartbroken’ fans that hardworking staff are trying to keep up with demand.
Marks and Spencer has been making serious moves in the last few months. It introduced its largest ever Christmas drinks range; announced a game-changing partnership with Too Good To Go, allowing customers to rescue surplus food for a fraction of the price; and welcomed back viral gingerbread and white chocolate cookies for the festive season.
The M&S cookies, sold in packs of five, also come in moreish flavours like triple chocolate and white chocolate.
However, because they’re so popular, they seem to be flying off the shelves—some shoppers have even reported feeling disheartened when they can’t get their hands on them.

“I went to FIVE BRANCHES and couldn’t find the triple chocolate ones,” one social media user wrote, as per Metro.“Devastated was an understatement.”
“I had to do a bakery shift the other day bc i work at m&s and they needed extra ppl for all these new products and the way the bakers were doing 100 packets of cookies A DAY (500 of these new cookies) just for them to sell out at 5pm … it’s insane,” said someone else.
A third reported: “Equivalent to heartbreak tbh, especially going there in this weather, walking through the storms only to see oat and raisin cookies left.”
People who have come up short in their hunt for M&S cookies have complained that perhaps the brand are dealing with ‘supply issues’, or that bakery staff are simply ‘struggling’.
But what is actually going on?

In a statement shared with Metro, the company said: “Our freshly baked cookies are a firm favourite with M&S customers, so it’s no surprise they can get snapped up quickly.
“They’re baked fresh in our in-store bakeries every day, with our teams working hard to keep up with customer demand.”
The latest addition to the cookie counter is a chewy chocolate and cornflake variety, made with black treacle for a ‘deep caramel flavour’.
They contain crunchy caramel pieces and crisp cornflakes. They’re finished with rich milk chocolate.
The chocolate and cornflake cookies have sent adults in the UK into a tizz, with one X user admitting: “Just went to Haymarket M&S after work for the new cornflake cookies and there is a queue of at least 50 people waiting for them to be baked.”

Someone else claimed: “Went to get lunch at M&S and there was a whole mob of people waiting for some cornflake cookie variant, they all cheered when they came out of the oven. Guys, your backs!!!”
A third user described the chaos as ‘crazy’, likening the shopping experience to Suzanne Colin’s The Hunger Games.
“The staff were fed up. As soon as the cookies were done, they’d slam a few bags down & literally people pushed & pulled to get them. Crazy!,” they claimed.
A fourth joked: “Rushing for M&S cookies as if it’s a ‘Search 7 Chests at Risky Reels’ objective,” referring to the popular online battle royale, Fortnite.
Will you be picking up the new cookies any time soon?
