When Taylor Swift surprised her ‘Patient Zero’ co-star Dakota Johnson with a birthday cake on Saturday Night Live, the baker sitting at home described how ‘wild’ of a surprise it was.
You may have missed it, but Johnson was drafted in to host the latest edition of SNL from the Rockefeller Centre in New York City—and on her 37th birthday no less!
The 3 October stint marked the third time the Verity actress had served in the coveted role, following hosting appearances during season 40 in 2015 and season 49 in 2024.
During the show, the Madame Web star was surprised on stage by Swift, 36, whom she joked was her ‘therapist’.

“I have really good friends. They don’t judge me for dating these men; they’re actually really supportive,” Johnson said, alluding to her ex-boyfriends Chris Martin and Role Model.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my literal therapist,” she continued as Swift stepped out holding a turquoise-and-white celebration cake, baked by Gaby Scelzo.
“Thank you for having my birthday with me,” a visibly excited Johnson added during the goodnights.
Speaking about seeing her funfetti cake with salty vanilla buttercream being presented to Johnson by Swift, the Gaby Cakes owner told People Magazine it was ‘such a wild surprise’.
“I was falling asleep as I was watching the show,” she recalled. “So the fact that she came out with it at the end was WILD.”
The culinary expert also took to Instagram to reveal that the ‘Happy Birthday Dakota’ message had been handwritten by Swift, and that she’d also created a white iced version, too.
People reported that this isn’t the first time that a Scelzo creation has made its way to SNL.

It’s understood that the long-running comedy show had previously commissioned the 29-year-old to create a cake for ex-cast member Bowen Yang, as well as for singer Sabrina Carpenter and Jalen Brunson, point guard for the new York Knicks.
Fans have been quick to congratulate Scelzo for the ‘beautiful cake’ making it onto NBC, with one Instagram user typing: “bye this is so cool!!!!!!!”
A second said: “Oh I should’ve known you were behind this magic moment OMG.”
“Rainbow sprinkles remind me of all the colors for 1989 eras tour,” mused someone else.
A fourth added: “When your name can be spoken in the same sentence as Taylor Swift.”

Last month, Kelli Giddish claimed that Swift was also a dab hand in the kitchen, with the ‘Blank Space’ icon reportedly bringing handmade sourdough cookies to the set of her surprise Law & Order: SVU-themed Emmys skit.
The 46-year-old actor said on the Women in Entertainment podcast: “She brought me some really, really, really good cookies, and I’m kind of a cookie snob, so I was really pleased.”
When pressed on what flavour of cookies the star brought in, Giddish confirmed: “They were sourdough brown butter chocolate chip.”
Swift has previously discussed her love for baking sourdough bread on an episode of her husband Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights.
“The sourdough has taken over my life in a huge way. I’m really talking about bread 60 percent of the time now,” she claimed at the time, adding that she had been testing ‘blueberry lemon, cinnamon swirl, cinnamon raisin’ versions.
