A university society has gone viral after more than 60 students rocked up to a Tesco to purchase the ultimate meal deal, with big brands like Doritos, Deliveroo, and even the supermarket itself weighing in.
Students at the University of Birmingham can currently join more than 350 clubs and societies, including battle re-enactment, the bubble tea group, pole fitness, and even the world food society.
And, if they fancy it, there is also the UoB Meal Deal Society; a dedicated group promising to ‘bring people together over a shared love of the great meal deal’.
According to the Guild of Students website, the society is relaxed and a great way to ‘meet new people and get involved whenever you fancy’.

“From picnics and quizzes to pub crawls and collaborations with other societies, there’s always something fun to join in with.”

Membership costs £3.85 and comes with a free meal deal, naturally.
Viral ‘first meal deal society’ event
Earlier this week, the society posted footage from its first-ever ‘meal deal society event’: a trip to Tesco to pick up a main, a side, and a drink.
According to the clip, which has amassed more than 850,000 views on TikTok alone, more than 60 people turned up to the event—and they were all spotted outside before the treat-picking began.
“The shop will have some confusion when they are comparing the same days but next year's sales,” joked one viewer.
Another said: “Cheers guys this was very helpful when I was in a rush to grab my own meal deal.”
“I just know the Tesco employees were crying,” joked someone else.
Brands get involved with ‘meal deal society’
Brands have also chimed in, with Doritos telling the UoB society that they ‘love their work’.
“We need to know what the winning meal deal was,” TikTok commented, while Deliveroo added: “Sign me up for the next one.”
“It’s been a really easy way for people to meet others”
The current president of the Birmingham University Meal Deal Society recently spoke to Metro, claiming that since the club was resurrected, he’s seen ‘so many people with different interests’ banding together to make the exclusive group fun.
“It’s been a really easy way for people to meet others they might not have otherwise crossed paths with,” said 22-year-old Finlay, a computer science student who was ‘democratically elected’ into the position.
He added to the publication that the society’s next event is ‘a campus scavenger hunt, with teams completing tasks at various locations around campus.’

Finally, whose meal deal consists of a chicken Caesar wrap, Jimmy’s iced coffee, and salt and vinegar Kettle chips, said the society isn’t just about heading to the local supermarket to purchase meal deals.
Instead, plans are in place for quizzes, volunteering, and collaborations with other University of Birmingham societies.
“We’re definitely planning to branch out and try other supermarkets and food establishments in the future!,” he added.
Some TikTok viewers have even recommended where the society should get their meal deals from next.
“You all need to do a field trip to a Booths, because they have the best meal deal as you get two sides and it's only £6,” said one TikToker.
Another said: “Why did you not go to Boots? They invented the meal deal not Tesco.”
