Meal deals are both a national staple and a national curiosity. You might imagine sandwiches, crisps, and drinks coming in a sub-£5 package would be common to the rest of the developed world, but any hungry Brit abroad has likely discovered it’s not the case.
As such, there’s a strange kind of national identity bound up in the humble meal deal. We’ve all got our go-tos, and there’s no right or wrong answer.
That is, except for the most unholy of meal deals: a ‘Simply Ham’ sandwich with a pack of Walkers Ready Salted and a bottle of water.
If you’re guilty of that combo, expand your palate, for the love of God.
Another meal deal combination that flirts with wrongness at least has some complex flavours involved. Prolonged exposure to it may also cause complex illnesses, of course.
The combo in question comes from Reddit user TiddlyhamBumberspoot – presumably not their birth name – who shared what they believe to be the ‘least healthy meal deal’ you can conjure.
It’s a fair claim. The meal deal features: a Ginsters Cornish pasty, a Rustlers quarter-pounder, and a Monster energy drink.

If you’re getting heartburn at the thought of it, fair enough.
At the very least, it’s a good deal at just £4 from TiddlyhamBumberspoot’s local Co-Op.
“No idea how the Cornish (contentious?) Pasty is being considered a snack but not complaining either,” said TiddlyhamBumberspoot, revealing how two ‘mains’ ended up in the deal.
Let’s look at the numbers.
Monster Juiced - Aussie Lemonade
The caffeinated beverage comes in at 500ml with 160g of caffeine and 208 calories. It usually retails at £1.80, which is a small price to pay for four coffees’ worth of caffeine.
Ginsters Cornish Pasty
This mass-produced rendition of the tin miners’ classic comes in at £1.95, with 597 calories and 35g of fat in amongst the beef mince, swede, potato, and pastry.
Delicious? Yes. Health food? What do you reckon?
Rustlers Quarter Pounder
Burgers aren’t usually cited among superfood lists, especially not microwaveable ones.
This common visitor to student halls and retail staff rooms features 28.4g of fat, 526 calories, and a £2.25 dent in your wallet for each one. That’s if you don’t bag one in a meal deal, of course.

Final score
In total, this meal deal contains 1,331 calories. If you’re aiming for the rough average of 2,000 calories a day, that’s over 65% covered by this combo.
Separately, they’d come to £6, so they’re an undeniable bit of value in this heart attack luncheon.
Redditors joked that the meal deal has ‘gotta take at least a year off your lifespan’ and that the combination amounted to ‘a war crime’.
“It'll put you on your way to an early grave but that's a good bargain,” said another.
“Either way, it is the worst meal deal of all time,” chimed another.
