Nutella has debuted its first new flavour in more than six decades, with sweet treat fans begging for supermarkets nationwide to ‘shut up and take their money’ already.

In 1964, Italian confectionery company Ferrero officially introduced the world to Nutella - a spreadable hazelnut-cocoa paste that is now sold in hundreds of tons across 160 countries and counting.

Since its inception 62 years ago, the creamy cupboard staple has only come in one rich flavour. However, everything has changed this month.

According to a press release issued on 15 April, shoppers across the United States can now head to their local supermarket to pick up a brand new jar of Nutella.

According to Noah Szporn, Senior Vice President of Spreads, Ferrero North America, the pioneering new product was inspired by Nutella taking centre stage amid the first manned moon mission in over half a century.

“Honestly, when a jar of Nutella goes viral floating in space, you start to feel like anything is possible. So naturally our next move as a brand was dropping our first new flavour innovation in over 60 years," he said.

Introducing Nutella Peanut: a product that Szporn vows delivers ‘the same creamy experience fans know and love blended with the irresistible taste of roasted peanuts’.

“Our fans have been asking for this for years. We heard them, and afternoon snack time will never be the same,” the food expert alleged.

"Nutella Peanut was developed specifically for this market: It brings together a new taste experience that blends the unmistakable creaminess of Nutella with the delicious taste of roasted peanuts.”

There has been an outpouring of love across social media since Nutella Peanut got announced, with one X user writing: “It's now Peanut Nutella Jelly Time!”

“Nutella Peanut after 60 years?! Finally, the spread that went from ‘hazelnut’ to ‘hell yeah nut’. Who’s clearing the shelf with me?,” replied someone else.

A third shared a GIF with the phrase ‘Shut up and take my money’, while another commented: “Nutella really had to go to the moon just to drop a new Peanut flavor? 50+ years and one small flyby for @NASAArtemis II, one giant jar for mankind.”

It appears as if Nutella Peanut is currently a USA exclusive, but keep your eyes peeled Europe: you never know when the item may land in your local Sainsbury’s.

Anyone who is New York based has the opportunity to head to the first-ever Nutella Peanut Pop-Up next month at 372 Lafayette Street.

The free, open-to-the-public event is set to take place on 16 and 17 May, and will give guests the chance to play games and win Nutella Peanut-themed prizes and personalised keepsakes.

Attendees will also have the chance to chow down on free Nutella Peanut sandwiches and sample dippable snacks.

“We wanted fans to actually taste and play with the product, not just see it on a shelf," added Szporn.

If you can’t get your hands on a jar of Nutella Peanut, there are some other brands who sell similar products, including Jif, Bonne Maman, and Peanut Butter & Co.
