Halloween may be over for another year, but Kelly Ripa is still feeling the aftershocks - not from sugar overload, but from an unexpected encounter with a less-than-impressed neighbour.

The US talk show host, known for her quick wit and high-energy charm on Live with Kelly and Mark, shared a post-Halloween tale that’s part suburban sitcom, part sweet-toothed scandal.

During the Tuesday 4 November episode of the show, Ripa and her husband-slash-co-host Mark Consuelos were chatting about Halloween traditions, candy donations, and what to do with leftovers. Consuelos suggested that any remaining sweets could be given to schools, troops overseas, or local food pantries and shelters. Without missing a beat, Ripa laughed and replied: "Yeah, we never have leftovers."

For most, that would be the end of the story. But it seems even running out of treats can cause a trick or two.

Ripa revealed that not everyone in her New York City neighbourhood was thrilled with her Halloween hospitality this year.

She said: “Uh… so, we ran out of candy twice and had to reorder on the fly. And, interestingly enough, yesterday, a woman came up to me and sort of lodged a complaint that we ran out of candy.”

It wasn’t a child who wanted a second go at the sweet stash, either. Ripa added: “An adult woman… she said, ‘What happened to your candy this year?’ And I go, ‘What do you mean?’ She said, ‘Well, you ran out.’”

According to Ripa, the mystery neighbour showed up around 8.30pm, expecting the candy flow to still be going strong. She told a laughing studio audience: “I said, ‘No, it’s over then’, making it clear that her household’s Halloween operations officially shut down before the late-night stragglers arrived.

Consuelos couldn’t help but react, groaning and saying he wished he’d been there to hear the exchange first-hand. Ripa, however, insisted she handled the awkward candy confrontation with class. She told him: “I received it well, you would’ve been proud of me.”

Ripa and Consuelos have become fan favourites for their on-screen chemistry and for turning everyday mishaps into must-watch TV. Halloween, in particular, is a big deal for the couple; their show is famous for its elaborate costumes and themed sketches.

For instance, this year’s looks were inspired by pop culture icons, including Chappell Roan and Labubu, as well as Apple TV’s Severance and singer Benson Boone.
