Jeremy Clarkson has banned another popular item from Farmer's Dog pub

Jeremy Clarkson's commitment to serving locally-sourced food has claimed another favourite item

Jeremy Clarkson's pub, The Farmer's Dog, has reportedly banned a popular item from being brought in.

Top Gear star Jeremy made a commitment with his pub to only serve food that is '100% British' and ideally locally sourced.

It has been claimed that only food sourced from a 16-mile radius of the Cotswolds pub makes the cut.

Many people love a trip to a special pub or restaurant to celebrate a birthday or other occasion, and one such customer emailed The Farmer's Dog to find out about bringing a birthday treat along.

Bringing your own birthday cake is a fairly common request, but it's one that's been refused here.

When emailing the pub, a customer received a reply - shared with The Sun - which read: "As part of our commitment to back British farming, we kindly ask that only 100% British food products are brought into the pub; this sadly includes birthday cakes.”

It's unclear whether this means that 100% British cakes can be allowed if you can prove where they are made, or if it's a blanket ban.

It comes after Clarkson revealed Coca-Cola and coffee can't be ordered in the pub as neither are produced locally.

Ketchup is often produced in Poland and Spain, which also caused difficulties.

His dedication to the rule has meant that he potentially makes a loss when people come to dine there, or at the smaller venue, The Farmer's Puppy.

They serve British meat from an on-site butcher called Hops and Chops, and the pub and shops have shot to fame alongside the Diddly Squat farm shop.

Insisting on only serving local produce has incurred extra costs for Clarkson.

In an interview, he estimated he loses £10 per customer, and gave an example of black pepper.

In his column for The Times, the star revealed the cost of pepper is ten times higher when you want to source it from the UK.

He confessed: “Now, a business-minded person would look at these costs and realise that with British-only rules in place, a hotdog was going be priced at about £45.

“But I’m not a business-minded person.

“So I just filled my heart with hope, asked an AI program to work out what the average price of lunch in a Cotswolds pub is and just charged that.

“It’s possible that for every customer who comes through the door I’d lose about £10.”

According to The Sun, he wrote: “I have tried my absolute hardest to make sure that every single thing you consume in The Farmer’s Dog was grown or reared by British farmers. And I have failed.

"Yes, the pork, the beef, the lamb and the venison are all British. And so is pretty much everything else. The milk, the butter, the eggs, the vegetables and the fruit. We even cook in British oils."

“There have been some problems like, for instance, the simple G&T, you can’t have a pub that doesn’t offer a gin and tonic. But there is quinine in tonic water, and you can’t grow that in Britain. Sure, I could have served gin and water instead, but I didn’t think you’d enjoy it very much. Especially as, instead of a slice of lemon, you’d have been given a slice of turnip, or some potato peelings."

Cakes aren't the only thing to be banned, after his Top Gear co-stars revealed Jeremy had also barred them from the property.

Richard Hammond revealed his barring just weeks after it opened, while James May was banned from the very first day.
