Gordon Ramsay's ready meal pie leaves fans very divided

"It’s raw!”

Gordon Ramsay is nothing if not a stickler for culinary competence. Along with collecting Michelin stars more successfully than most of us collect colds, he can pin his global fame on a long line of TV shows where he tears lesser chefs to shreds for their foodie transgressions.

You might imagine that a man who prides himself on fine dining, traces his own culinary lineage to Marco Pierre White and Raymond Blanc, and has frequently lambasted restaurants for stocking frozen meals over the years wouldn’t be seen to be flogging his own frozen ready meals, but you’d be wrong.

Enter: a Redditor sharing a Chef Ramsay Chicken Pot Pie they recently tried out.

“Made a quick review a couple weeks ago on this one, but like a doughnut I didn’t take any photos of the actual thing. I took these photos last night!” they said, suggesting they’ve been back for seconds.

“How did it taste?” asked one reply, to which the original poster said: “10/10! But it’s a bit on the pricey side, which is fair.”

Other commenters were quick to note that frozen ready meals and Gordon Ramsay aren’t exactly natural bedfellows.

“I’m gonna go check this out but the fact he sells frozen food is kind of crazy and ironic,” said one comment.

Generally speaking, it’s been a divisive thread. One Redditor summed it up: “I love the 50/50 of the comments. Half are like ‘yeah itis pretty good’, the other half are ‘HOW COULD GORDON DO THIS TO US?!?!?!’”

With that in mind, here’s another positive review. “I liked it,” said another comment. “Wish there was more filling though.”

The original poster concurred: “Absolutely. Portion leaves more to be desired.”

For others, a puerile sense of humour and consternation over the Chef Ramsay frozen meals’ existence soon took precedence.

One unflattering comment said: “It looks like something from his grandfather's diaper.”

“Looks like an IBS flare up,” shared another charmer.

“Looks like prison food but sure it was fire,” said one who implied that looks can be deceiving.

“I’ve had this and I thought it tastes like ass… to each their own though,” said another – in some circles that might be a selling point.

“I bought this... absolute dog sh*t.. look at it! Smell it!!! But seriously it was bad.... he sold out,” said another.

“Bro is literally the bad guy from Ratatouille,” chimed another user who reckons the ready meals are a sign that Ramsay’s selling out.

Another posited: “One of the Kitchen Nightmares restaurants should serve it to him and pretend it’s their food and see how he rips it apart.”

Now that would be a very entertaining thing to see.
