Starbucks' viral Bearista cups are finally coming to the UK - but with one strict rule

Employees and fans of the company are waiting for the 'riot' to ensue

It’s official: Starbucks’ viral Bearista cups are heading to the UK... Here’s everything you need to know after some Americans were left bitterly disappointed.

Last November, the coffee house prepared for the festive season by releasing a limited number of glass cups shaped like teddy bears in the United States.

The 'Bearista' featured a green beanie hat, a straw in signature Starbucks colours, and caused serious issues with drinkers hoping to get their mitts on the exclusive item.

There were reports of altercations, and people lining up outside of their local store at 4am to purchase one.

Social media was filled with disgruntled shoppers, with many slamming the company for not stocking the adorable cups properly.

Starbucks apologised for any disappointment caused, claiming the excitement for the Bearista cup ‘exceeded expectations’.

Now, it appears it’s Britain’s turn for chaos, as the American chain announced a 2026 launch date.

Taking to Instagram to reveal when UK dwellers can get their paws on the glass essential, Starbucks wrote on Monday 12 January: "This is not a drill... see you 15.01.”

A teaser image of what appeared to be the ears of the mammal with its hat on was shared alongside the caption.

On the Starbucks app, the business added: “Save the date and get ready - you’re going to want to get yours before they disappear!”

On 15 January, the Bearista cup will officially launch in UK stores.

It is subject to availability, with the company warning that not every coffee house will receive a shipment.

It’s also one customer per vessel. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Starbucks fans and employees alike have taken to Reddit to have their say - and not everyone is impressed with the delightful chalice appearing in Britain stores.

“Bearmageddon is coming to the UK,” wrote one social media user. “Keep calm, everyone it’s happening.”

“As much as I’d like one, I just cba if it’s going to cause a riot,” an Instagram user commented.

Someone else typed: “Hope it’s not going to be chaotic like it was in America.”

“Hopefully each shop will have more than one in stock,” another said.

“Not even gona get excited because the chance of getting one is probably about 0.1 percent,” a fifth fan said.

If you don’t manage to get your hands on the Bearista, then Starbucks’ new winter range may have an alternative balm.

Last week, the coffee titan launched its winter drink range, featuring a pistachio velvet oat latte, ristretto blanco, and a matcha latte.

Bakery favourites such as a pistachio and white chocolate loaf cake are available to purchase, as well as savoury delights, including a spinach and pea falafel wrap, and a tomato and mozzarella panini.

If it’s merchandise you’re after, then there’s the Odyssey Cold Cup, Siren Scale Mug, or White Hot Cup to choose from, too.
