Having recently had been engaged in a very public falling out with President Donald Trump, Elon Musk is surely glad to have some lighter news to which he can attach himself.
In Hollywood, California, the Musk-led electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla has opened its own themed diner, with queues stretching around the block within 24 hours of its opening.
The ‘retro-futuristic’ diner has a very stainless steel vibe, akin to the much-memed Tesla Truck, along with 80 EV charging stations, two 66ft-tall movie screens, and an extensive diner served across two storeys.

On 21 July 2025 at 4:20pm – because of course – the Tesla Diner opened its doors for the first time as Musk explained it would offer ‘classic American fare like burgers and milkshakes’.

The popcorn is served by a robot called ‘Optimus’ which appears to be fully automated. Footage from inside the Tesla Diner also showed off its Tesla Truck-shaped burger boxes, and the cinema screens in action with some classic Star Trek episodes.
“I was very impressed by the robots serving popcorn,” said a patron in a CNBC report on TikTok.
“It feels kind of like Disneyland but for adults or Tesla owners. That’s how I feel,” said another early visitor.

“If you’re a Tesla owner and you order from your car ahead of time, you don’t have to wait in line,” said another customer detailed as a ‘Prospective Tesla Owner’. “We waited for about an hour and 30 minutes.” Ouch!
Appearing on NBC News, another visitor added: “I’m hoping the robot will be here. I really want to test out the bathroom, because we’ve seen cool pictures of the bathroom. But the chicken waffle sandwich is supposed to be good; the fries are supposed to be good.”
The 24-hour pilot restaurant could be the first of many, with Musk suggesting that the brand could open more in major cities around the world if the original proves popular enough.
Per the Guardian, the pilot Tesla Diner covers 3,800 square feet across its bottom tier, with outdoor seating and kitchens covering 5,500 square feet.
You needn’t be a Tesla owner to pay a visit but it seems ordering from a Tesla while you’re en route is the way to go.
