Elon Musk's 'power up' breakfast has key health benefit according to doctor

If you’re the richest man on Earth, steak for breakfast is surely a given.

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has shared an unusual breakfast that he claims gives him a ‘power up’ in the morning.

It’s often cited as the most important meal of the day, but it’s all too common to see breakfast reduced to a sugar bowl of mulch, and that’s if it gets eaten at all.

After all, mornings can be busy and stressful, especially if you’re not an easy-riser. Rushing out the door without so much as an unbuttered slice of toast in your system is no way to start a day, and yet we’ve all done it.

With intermittent fasting having become somewhat mainstream, breakfast is now being deliberately skipped by many, while many others skip it by accident.

Intermittent fasting is a practice that sees people restrict their eating to a set window each day, usually an eight-hour one sandwiched between 16-hour fasts. It’s claimed that the practice can increase insulin sensitivity and thereby reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, as well as aid with calorie management and weight loss.

That said, a study by the American Heart Association found that “people who followed an eight-hour, time-restricted eating schedule were more likely to die from cardiovascular disease”.

Anyway, back to the world’s richest man. It won’t surprise you to learn that a man with inexhaustible means has a penchant for indulgent breakfasts, and so it proves.

The X boss, 53, shared his breakfast on the social media platform in July 2024: "Wow, steak & eggs with coffee in the morning really feels like a powerup!"

It didn’t take long for comments to start flowing.

"Careful though, a high protein diet has been linked to massive gains and being awesome," said one person looking to get in the Tesla CEO’s good books.

"Actually cooking some up myself right now," said another.

The meal has its positives and negatives, as described by Dr Hamdan Abdullah Hamed from Power Your Curls.

"This meal can provide a substantial amount of protein and fats, which might make someone feel energised and satiated," Dr Hamed told the Mirror.

"Steak and eggs are rich in protein, which is essential for muscle repair and growth, and they also contain important vitamins and minerals like iron, vitamin B12, and choline.

"Coffee, on the other hand, can boost alertness and focus due to its caffeine content.

"However, it's important to consider the balance of nutrients in any meal.

"While this breakfast can be beneficial for short-term energy, it may lack essential components like fibre, which is crucial for digestive health, and a variety of vitamins and minerals found in fruits and vegetables.

"Incorporating a wider range of food groups into breakfast can ensure a more balanced intake of nutrients, supporting overall health in the long term."

Musk isn’t exactly a paragon of healthy choices, particularly where sleep is concerned. If you’re looking for advice on maintaining a healthy diet that will keep you in fine fettle, we recommend consulting the NHS rather than a business exec.
