Tourist goes to extreme lengths after 'falling in love' with cult UK snack

The tourist came to visit the UK, including a trip to an icon of British food

A tourist has gone to some impressively extreme lengths to secure their new-found favourite snack after visiting the UK.

It's a staple for people on their lunch break, or coming home, or even just fancying a little something to eat at any time of the day or night.

I am of course referring to the UK classic that is Greggs, serving up hot baked goods.

But while Greggs is hugely popular as an everyday staple in the UK, for at least one person visiting the country it's become something of an obsession.

Of course, few things heighten the appeal of a food or drink like it being difficult for someone to get hold of, whether it's some Brits bringing back really good cheap wine from France, or some locally pressed Italian olive oil.

And for the UK, it seems that Greggs is the object of this visitor's desire - but they've been left with a dilemma when it comes to preserving their sausage rolls.

This is of course because, unlike a bottle of wine or olive oil, a sausage roll or Steak Bake is considerably more perishable - it's not like you can keep it in the cupboard for several months.

Taking to Reddit, they outlined their dilemma and talked people through their grand master plan, writing: "I'm currently traveling in the UK and will be going home in a few days. I fell in love with Greggs and want to bring some of it home.

"Considering they are not refrigerated in the shop either, could I buy a few of the 4 packs of sausage rolls, bring them in me suitcase with me and than put them in the freezer when I get home?

"All in all there would be maybe 6-7ish hours from purchase to me getting home. Will they still be good by then or gone off?"

Now that's dedication.

Others shared some tips on how they could preserve them.

One wrote: "For the 6-7 hours they'll be absolutely fine. Would recommend refrigerating them when you get home though.

"We have to get rid of them at the end of the day, but they'll be absolutely fine for 3 days from purchase."

Nonetheless, they warned: "The quality will drop though from the 2nd day after purchase."

Another echoed this, writing: "Yeah you should be good. May be slightly stale but will still taste amazing."

There was also another option, which is that Greggs iconic sausage rolls are stocked by Iceland in frozen form, which might buy the Greggs fiend more time.

One person advised: "Buy the frozen ones at Iceland right before you leave."
