Greggs fans ‘devastated’ after chain quietly axes menu favourite

Another one bites the dust.

Greggs is a modern staple of the British high street, dishing up affordably lunchtime grub, snacks, and those delectable sausage rolls – vegan or otherwise – to millions of hungry punters.

If you’re a regular, you’ve likely got your go-to selection locked and loaded. You’re likely also aware that Greggs, perhaps most renowned for its pastry options, has plenty of healthy options to choose from.

That said, it seems one of those has quietly disappeared from the menu, although it seems as though a near-replica has jumped into the vacant spot.

The Chargrill Chicken Oval Bite, first introduced in 2016, was a light, filling, and protein-rich option that could serve as a light bite or a full lunch depending on your appetite, but sadly it seems like it’s no more.

Priced at £2.50, the Oval Bite included chargrilled chicken pieces drizzled in honey mustard mayonnaise, with tomatoes, cucumber and salad leaves sandwiched in a seeded bun.

It first hit Greggs in 2016 as part of a low-calorie selection of sandwiches, wraps and rolls. They each aimed to come in at under 400 calories each.

On Reddit, one concerned citizen asled: "Chargrill chicken oval bite been taken off the menu?

"I’ve literally checked 5 different Gregg's locations in the past week and they haven’t had the chargrill chicken oval bite in stock. They don’t even have the little name tag on shelves, are they axing this? It was my favourite since I was wee and I'd be devastated lol."

Their concern seems warranted, with other Redditors chiming in to say the sandwich has also gone missing from their local Greggs.

"Aye, can't find it in any I've been in,” said one frustrated hunter.

“Ffs that was my idea of a healthy option,” bemoaned another. “Two sausage rolls it is then."

Others suggested it’s been replaced with another option: "Ye they've got this rubbish roast chick sub instead, sorry to break it to you OP."

"Sadly it is gone,” lamented another. “There is a Roast Chicken and Honey Mustard which is as close as it gets. Its not bad but I did prefer the original."

Another users pointed out that this usurper is essentially the same thing as the missing menu item: "It's now called roast chicken. It's basically exactly the same. Give it a go!"

Speaking to the Sun, Greggs confirmed that the Oval Bite has been replaced with the Roast Chicken Salad Roll.
