Mum’s ‘genius’ cheese hack will change how you slice it forever

The kind of simplicity that speaks to true genius.

Cheese is one of life’s great pleasures, right up until you need to slice or grate a load of it for a meal.

Manoeuvring your way around a block of cheddar to grate or slice it without breaking it to pieces or crushing it under your grip can be easier said than done.

Slices are difficult to cut uniformly too, often ending up with different thicknesses and sizes that don’t quite fit properly onto your would-be slice of cheese on toast.

And then when it comes to grilling it, all those different thicknesses melt at different rates, making for very inconsistent cheesiness.

If you’ve ever wondered if there’s surely a better way: there is.

Bella, posting on TikTok as @paperbelle, has stumbled on a solution that will change how you slice your cheese forever.

Sharing the savvy hack in a video, the Aussie mum soon went viral for her “genius”.

Since sharing it in May 2024, she’s racked up over 441,000 likes and thousands of comments lauding her discovery.

The beauty of it is in its simplicity. All you need is a potato peeler.

"You mean to tell me you've never used a peeler to peel your cheese?" Bella asks her followers at the start of the video.

Then, with a block of cheddar in hand, she begins peeling perfect slice after perfect slice.

"I have done this my whole life. My whole family does this. And you do it because you get a really even cheese slice," she continued.

"See? It's perfect.

"As someone who consumes a lot of cheese on toast, I can confirm that this is the ultimate way to slice cheese."

The “game-changing” hack soon won Bella many a fan and cheese-peeling convert.

"Omg it's genius! Doing this from now on!" said one enthusiastic commenter.

Another branded it as “lowkey genius”.

Yet another chuffed commenter said Bella had “changed [their] life”.

There were, however, some who had better options to share.

Some kindly pointed out that most cheese graters have a slicer built-in, and others noted that a Norwegian cheese slice would do a better job.

For Bella, her familial habit is more than enough for her needs.

Spare a thought for any members of her family who have gone to peel a potato only to find the blade crusted up with cheddar.
