It's time to raid the fruit bowl and the spice cabinet because apparently it's going to be a 'fricy' summer.
This latest bizarre food trend is taking off across social media, and is being picked up by recipe websites, food influencers, cocktail bar menus, and even the BBC... so what exactly is it?
'Fricy' a mash-up of fruity and spicy flavours in the same dish. Think spicy mango margaritas, chilli jams, and chutneys that pack a punch.
If it sounds a little familiar, you're not going crazy. It's strangely similar to the 2025 'swicy' trend, which saw foodies, restaurants, and brands combining sweet and spicy flavours in one perfect bite.

But while 'swicy' brought us drizzles of hot honey and bites of chilli chocolate, 'fricy' is teasing crazy flavour combos like watermelon and hot sauce or pineapple and jalapenos.

Of course, there's a method to the madness here.
Speaking to Business Insider, food scientist Brittany Towers explained that the natural sugars found in fruit can help to cool down the intense heat we get from spicy ingredients, making it easier for people with a lower spice tolerance to enjoy fiery foods.
"With sweet and spicy, our body processes spice through receptors in our taste buds and the capsaicin in peppers binds to our taste buds," she explained.
None of this is exactly new, though. Plenty of cuisines from around the world have been combining tropical fruit and tangy spice combos for years - Thai sweet chilli sauce, Chinese sweet and sour, Mexican spicy mango, the list goes on. But now this food combo has a name, a hashtag, and a lot of people filming themselves trying it for the first time.

One 'fricy' recipe that has taken TikTok by a storm ahead of summer is the intensely tasty Mexican Mangonada.
This blended frozen drink is a mouth-watering mix of frozen mango, mango pulp and lime, alongside chamoy (a pickled hot sauce), tajin seasoning, and a tamarind stick.
It sounds like an intense flavour combo but the drink does look undeniably delicious.
Other 'fricy' recipes we've come across online include - but are certainly not limited to - strawberry salsa, watermelon tajin lollies, and frozen chilli lime grapes, and they all look genuinely tasty and refreshing.
If you're entertaining friends or family this summer and feeling a little adventurous, whip up one of these fricy delicacies and see how they go down.
If not, hot honey will always be there for you.
