A brand of bottled water has been urgently recalled in the UK after fears that it could contain glass and potentially injure consumers.

Waitrose is recalling it after food safety officials warned that its still and sparking 750ml bottles of water could be contaminated.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued the recall notice for bottles of No1 Deeside Mineral Water on Tuesday 30 December, with still water best-before dates in November and December 2027 and Waitrose No1 Deeside Sparkling Water with December 2027 best-before dates.

The batch codes for the recalled still water includes: NOV 2027 28, DEC 2027 01, DEC 2027 02, DEC 2027 10, DEC 2027 11 and DEC 2027 16.

As for the sparkling water, the batch codes are: DEC 2027 01, DEC 2027 03, DEC 2027 12, DEC 2027 15 and DEC 2027 25.

As per the FSA, the bottles ‘may contain glass which may cause injury and makes it unsafe to drink.’

The FSA went on to say that Waitrose has taken action to remove the risk from customers.

It stated the stores will print notices for customers to see, and more, writing in its press release: “Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products. Please see the attached notice.”

As for Waitrose, it said it 'apologise[s] that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.’

When it comes to reporting a bottle of water if you have bought one, the FSA advises not to drink it and to call a special number.

The agency wrote: “If you have bought any of the above products do not drink it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For more information contact: Waitrose Customer Care 0800 188 884 Option 4.”

This isn’t the first time that glass led to the FSA recalling bottles of liquids.

Last month, spirits under the Disaronno Originale brand were also recalled for safety reasons.

In a notice published online, the FSA said Illva Saronno, the brand’s parent company, was recalling the product because of ‘the possible presence of small pieces of glass within some bottles of product, which could make it unsafe to drink’.

The recall applies specifically to 700ml bottles sold in England and Scotland, with seven batch codes identified as potentially affected. These codes are printed on the back of the bottle and include 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, and 25444.

According to the recall notice, the issue is believed to have occurred due to an ‘anomaly on the bottle line’, raising the risk that fragments of glass may have entered some bottles during production.
