Kim Kardashian once flew to Paris by private jet for cheesecake

Something to bear in mind next time you’re bullying yourself over taking a short-haul flight for your annual holibobs.

Air travel is an absolute nightmare for the planet, and private jets are often cited as a key reason why the richest people tend to unleash the most pollution. Private jets’ contribution to greenhouse gas emissions is on the rise, too.

But we’re sure the rich and powerful would only take a private jet if they had good reason to. Whether it’s Taylor Swift making sure she’s in town to watch her boyfriend at the SuperBowl or Kim Kardashian craving some cheesecake, it’s… wait, those both sound pretty indulgent.

On that latter point, we’re making no exaggerations. Kim Kardashian has shared how she once jumped in a private jet to Paris just so she could get a slice of cheesecake. Knowing how religiously she follows her diet and workout routines, it was probably a pretty meagre morsel of the stuff, too.

We can only wonder how many grams of carbon were emitted against each gram of cheesecake she ate on the day. It’s probably best that we don’t see those stats.

To be fair to Kim, many of us are partial to the indulgences of modern life that come with an environmental cost. Who among us hasn’t ordered something from Amazon with next-day delivery that we could have walked across town to buy?

Still, you’d have to be a pretty heavy Amazon user to rack up as big a carbon footprint as anyone who routinely uses a private jet.

She made the admission in an interview with Vogue US in 2015, back when the world seemed slightly less insane, saying that the cravings struck while she was pregnant with North West whom she shares with Ye.

For someone living in LA, it must have been sooooooo annoying to suddenly crave a specific cheesecake served by Hotel Costes in Paris. What mother hasn’t been there?

According to the menu, the famed cheesecake will set you back a cool €16.

As if to twist the knife, the ridiculous luxury of chartering a jet to retrieve some cheesecake was made all the more upsetting by her admission she doesn’t even like cheesecake.

"I flew in, maybe a couple months ago, just to have a last hurrah of all the food that I’m not going to be able to have for a while,” she said at the time.

"And I get there, and they tell me they didn’t have it. And I was like, ‘You don’t understand! I leave tomorrow!’

"I think I flew for one night… And they said ‘Okay, we’re going to get it! And they got it and it really made my day’."

Sigh indeed. Sentiments on social media tended to fall in the same direction.

"Kim Kardashian flew all the way from LA to Paris just because she wanted to eat a particular cheesecake and then flew back home….and here I am drinking from paper straws to save the world," said one X user – although it was, of course, known as ‘Twitter’ back in those days.

"Kim Kardashian flew all the way from LA to Paris just because she wanted this one cheesecake from a specific hotel named 'Hotel Costes' and then flew home… and you drink from a paper straw to save the world," said another.

A third added: "Kim Kardashian flew all the way from LA to Paris just because she wanted this one cheesecake from a specific hotel named 'Hotel Costes' and then flew home… and then you have the people out there drinking from a paper straws to save the planet."

Paper straws were a hot button issue back in 2015, clearly. The last days of Rome, and all that.
