If you're facing Dry January with some trepidation, there's a 0% drink that gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling without the hangover.

Maybe you woke up on Boxing Day with a banging head and a New Year's Resolution to ban the booze.

Or, even if you just want to cut down rather than out entirely, this could be just the ticket.

Sentia Spirits are drinks designed by Professor David Nutt and his team to mimic alcohol while being 0%.

It sounds too good to be true, but we promise they're not!

They work with your brain's chemistry to trick it with this 'effective alternative to drinking low levels of alcohol'.

There are several different flavours to choose from, too, with varying botanical flavours and purposes, with Sentia Gold, Sentia Red, and Sentia Black.

How do these drinks work?

It's all a matter of science! Time for a brief biology lesson...

When you drink alcohol, it triggers gamma-aminobutyric acid, an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain

These spirits mimic alcohol and trigger the same response. giving you a 'woozy and relaxed' feeling without the negative impacts of alcohol (such as hangovers and headaches the next day).

Professor Nutt told the Independent: “It’s a drink that is based on the science of alcohol, particularly the low doses of alcohol that relax you and make you more sociable.”

They cause the same sort of result as CBD drinks in that you'll get a 'buzz', but the Sentia Spirits pack more of a punch.

So what do they taste like?

They aren't trying to mimic any particular spirit, preferring to be something new.

Gold has notes of hops and schisandra, Black replaces a caffeine crash with ginseng and gingko to boost focus, while Red is a nightcap with ashwagandha and passionflower.

According to Sentia: "It’s bold, complex, and intentionally different, because it’s built to work, not just imitate. That layered, plant flavour? It comes from real functional ingredients doing real work."

Customers describe it as 'unusual but delicious'.

“I bought these drinks to reduce my alcohol intake but still wanted the relaxed feeling, well, it works! Fantastic!” praised one.

Another raved: “Definitely got a buzz, felt smiley and chilled almost immediately and stayed that way for quite a while. Felt fine the next morning too.”

A third reviewer said it gave them "a gentle buzz and a nice new addition to the drinks cabinet.”

"I think this is delicious with tonic. Had two, felt very relaxed," one customer said of Gold.
