New 'Boombites' superfood hits UK shelves and it's a hybrid of two popular fruits

Boom for your bite.

Eating healthily is on a lot of people’s minds, but adhering to a good dietary routine can be easier said than done.

When it comes to getting your five portions of fruit and vegetables each day there are a tonne of options but it can be tough to know how to get the most bang from your portions.

While all fruits and vegetables offer nutrition, some are more rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants than others.

Berries are often cited as the best place to get a good hit of all the above in one handful, and blueberries in particular are placed in the ‘superfood’ bracket by many experts.

Along with juice and flavour, they’re bursting with anthocyanins. These antioxidants are particularly potent, and they give your body very effective tools to combat free radicals that, unchecked, can trigger various cancers.

Grapes are another fruit that can arguably slot into Team Superfood. With their own roster of polyphenols and antioxidants, they’re well worth shovelling down on a daily basis.

Incredibly, you can now get the best of both worlds in one handy treat: Boombites.

These special Red Berry Grapes taste like high-end regular grapes, but when you take a bite you’ll find 'red berry' inside, with a thick red pulp that’s similar to a cherry. As with blueberries, cranberries and Goji berries, these are packed with anthocyanins.

In other words, they’re practically a combination of grapes and blueberries with an added cherry-like texture.

They’re now available in the UK albeit exclusively via M&S and Ocado. You’ll need to be quick to get your taste of them, too, as they’ll only be available for a limited time.

"Dark fruits have soared in popularity over recent years as people become familiar with their high antioxidant content,” said Dr Emma Derbyshire, Public Health Nutritionist, per the Daily Record.

"The vibrant colour of the Red Berry Grapes is down to high concentrations of anthocyanins, a powerful antioxidant that’s been linked to a wide range of health and wellness benefits."

She continued: "The Red Berry Grape breaks the rules. Not only is it packed with potential health benefits, but it’s unique in its appearance and offers a juicy, hydrating, rewarding taste. You’ll have to bite it to believe it."

Not only are anthocyanins cancer-battling goodies, they’ve also been shown to promote a healthy gut microbiome, manage cholesterol, and shore up your cardiovascular system.

Boombites also feature resveratrol which is common to peanuts, blueberries, grapes and raspberries. Along with being an antioxidant, resveratrol is anti-inflammatory too.

According to research from the University of Murcia, Boombites have three times the resveratrol content as blueberries.

You’d best head to your nearest M&S as soon as you can to get a shot of these delicious little fruits for yourself.
