Food recalls have been coming thick and fast in the US this year.
Back in May 2025, the FDA issued a recall on cucumbers distributed across 15 states over fears of a salmonella outbreak resulting in at least nine hospitalisation.
Another recall was issued in May for similar reasons, this time affecting tomatoes sold across three states. This one was precautionary, with no associated sicknesses being reported at the time of the recall.

April also saw a recall for baby food sold at Target over concerns it contained lead, with the risks of lead poisoning being particularly pronounced for young children who can experience damaging impacts to their central nervous system development.
The latest is considerably meatier than those detailed above, with a recall issued on 143,416 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna.
This one isn’t over an illness risk, but instead because the bologna from Gaiser's European Style Provisions Inc. has been found to contain ‘meat or poultry source materials that are not declared on product labels’.
The recalled sandwich staple may not pose a significant risk of health issues, but some people may abstain from particular meats for religious or ethical reasons. US law also dictates that food products’ ingredients lists must be comprehensive.
Seven different bologna products are included in the recall, all of which were produced between 20 March 2025 and 20 June with the establishment number ‘EST. 5385’.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a statement instructing affected customers to throw away or return products included in the recall.
"FSIS does not expect any adverse health effects for Class III recalled products," it FSIS.
Affected products include, per the US Department of Agriculture:
- “Vacuum-packed packages of "FAMILY TREE BOLOGNA VEAL" containing undeclared pork.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of "BABUSHKA'S RECIPE CHICKEN BOLOGNA" containing undeclared pork.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of "FANCY BOLOGNA" labeled with pork as an ingredient but containing undeclared beef and chicken.
- Vacuum-packed packages of "GAISERS RUSSIAN BRAND DOKTORSKAYA BOLOGNA" containing undeclared beef.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of "GAISERS BOLOGNA VEAL" containing undeclared chicken and pork.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of "GAISERS TURKEY BOLOGNA" containing undeclared chicken and pork.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of "CHICKEN BOLOGNA KYPOYKA PABA" containing undeclared pork.”

"Some products would have been weighed, wrapped, and labeled in retail store locations at the time of purchase," it added.
While the risks are limited, the FSIS has advised anyone with concerns about health impacts should speak with a medical professional.
