Wall's makes 'devastating' change to one of its most popular ice creams

It turns out Aldi is offering an alternative for those who don't like the tweaks

Wall’s has seemingly ruffled the feathers of frozen dessert fans by announcing one of its most beloved ice treats would be getting a recipe makeover for 2026.

Ice cream weather is officially upon us in Britain. And while many of us will likely dip out to our local supermarket to pick up a tub of creamy new Nutella ice cream, others will race to the street once they hear the distinct chime of their local ice cream van.

Those who haven’t been to see a vendor for a while may be shocked to learn that the iconic ‘99 Flake’ with monkey’s blood (AKA strawberry sauce) is no longer priced at 99p.

Sadly, customers who love biting into a good, old-fashioned Feast ice cream may also be disappointed to learn that the decadent chocolate delight no longer tastes the same.

“Feast’s recipe is changing from 2026 and will now contain hazelnuts, almonds and egg,” Wall’s Ice Cream’s official Instagram account stated earlier this year.

The statement added: “We recognise that this means that some people can no longer enjoy Feast Original, but alternatively you can grab the new Feast Caramel which is nut free!”

Other changes which die-hard treat lovers have noticed include the classic chocolate ice cream being swapped for vanilla, and the solid ‘chunky chocolate core’ now resembling a semi-set chocolate spread.

The Wall’s post has garnered some negative reaction from fans, with one writing: “My favourite ice cream ruined… why? Just tried one, and it’s not a Feast.”

A second echoed: “You have ruined my fav ice lolly, I’ve loved a feast since I was a kid and I’m 38. Thanks.”

“This was my favourite ice cream, but now as a nut allergy sufferer I can no longer enjoy a classic chocolate Feast? Why ruin it by removing the chocolate and adding an ingredient no one asked for?,” replied a third user.

Over on Reddit, another said: “They ruined Feast ice creams and I'm devastated. How did this happen? Take something delicious, chocolatey and unique and make it disgusting.

“Gone is the chocolate ice-cream and chocolate chunks and instead it's some sickly vanilla crap and the chocolate chunk is now just a vein of soggy stuff. Horrible.”

Others have come to fellow fans’ rescue to reveal that Aldi is currently selling the ultimate ice cream dupe.

The ‘cheap version’ from the supermarket, known as the Fiesta Lolly, comes in a pack of four and is currently on sale for £1.99.

That works out as less than 50p per individually wrapped item! An absolute bargain in our book.

“Get the Aldi Fiesta version,” commented one Instagram user.

Another advised: “Thank goodness @aldiuk are apparently picking up your slack!!!”

“Aldi have started doing a great dupe of the old feast, my friends and I managed to get our fix the other day,” a Redditor said.

The budget supermarket sharing a homage to classic products is no new feat.

Last year, the budget supermarket brand launched its own-brand ‘chicken wine’ in red and white varieties to rival the cult-favourite ‘La Vielle Ferme’ brand.

Bags of Thai sweet chilli ‘Perfections’, presumably modelled after Walkers Sensations, previously debuted; Wheat Bisks were sold in place of Weetabix; Nutoka is the chain’s version of Nutella, and Italian Premium Lager, known as Birra Mapelli, is an alternative version of the Heineken-owned alcoholic drink, Birra Moretti.

Arguably, the most famous ‘rip-off’ incident came with the introduction of Cuthbert the Caterpillar, a chocolate caterpillar cake that caused Marks & Spencer to launch a high-profile legal battle, accusing Aldi of infringing the trademark of their original Colin the Caterpillar cake.

In 2022, the two heavyweights reached an confidential, undisclosed settlement, and the legal claims were withdrawn.
