A sweet treat that’s been dominating social media feeds in the United States is finally making its way over to the UK next week, with one supermarket confirmed as a seller.
At one point this year, you couldn’t scroll too far on social media without seeing New Yorkers waxing lyrical about a small, sprinkle-topped cake.
The viral item, made popular by a mother-daughter duo at The Dotcakes, a bakery in Roslyn, had tourists and homegrown fans alike queuing down the street for hours to get their hands on the soft sponge cake topped with vanilla buttercream and tiny round nonpareils.
TikTok’s famous sprinkle cakes, colloquially known as the Dot Cake, are finally set to make their way over to the UK this month.

Metro reported that the Co-op shall become the first national British retailer to bring the cake trend to the country. It will launch its own version of the beloved delight in two different flavours.

“We’re excited to be hot on the heels of one of this year’s biggest food trends by being the first retailer to bring them to shops across the UK, Kevin Sargent, senior product development manager for cake at Co-op, told the publication.
“They tap into everything people love right now – aesthetically pleasing, nostalgic treats that are as fun to eat as they are to share online.
“With two delicious flavour combinations and that signature crunchy topping, we’re making it easier for shoppers across the country to get their hands on the viral treat and see what all the fuss is about.”
Anyone wanting to buy into the Dot Cake craze can pick up raspberry and vanilla or chocolate and salted caramel versions from 26 October.
The former weighs 166g and is made with vanilla-flavoured sponge layered with raspberry jam and vanilla-flavoured frosting.

Another layer of sweet stuff tops the cake, with small sugar ‘dots’ topping it off.
The Chocolate and Salted Caramel Dot Cake (177g) is similarly made, but with a chocolate-flavoured sponge, salted caramel sauce, and a chocolate and caramel frosting instead.
Both will cost £2.50. If you want the pair, you’ll need to fork out £5.
If you would prefer to support a business, Crumbs & Doilies has packs of five vanilla or chocolate dot cakes on sale for £35.
The mini joys are baked to order and are made with two layers of fluffy, moist vanilla sponge, raspberry jam, Swiss Meringue Icing, and topped with sprinkles.
The cakes are hand-delivered across London from the company’s Wandsworth Bakery.
You can also pick them up at stores in Soho (W1B 5PW) or the C7D Bakery at SW18 1SL. Hand delivery is also available anywhere inside the M25.
