Choosing a baby name can feel a bit like hunting for the perfect recipe: you know the flavours you love, but there are endless combinations and a whole world of inspiration to sift through first.
According to BabyCentre’s newly released charts, parents across the UK are mixing tradition with playful creativity more than ever. With the annual rundown of the most popular baby names landing, plenty of comforting classics alongside a few choices that have left some people wondering whether the nation has taken its love of food trends a touch too far.
The overall picture shows familiar favourites holding their ground.
Girls’ names continue to lean towards soft, floral picks and timeless staples, while boys’ names remain a blend of biblical, traditional, and sleek modern choices for parents naming their new children.

But, as always, there are also a few surprises.
The official page from BabyCentre reports: “The data is in and we officially have BabyCentre’s most popular baby names for 2025. Amelia is the new No. 1 girls' name, overtaking Olivia, while Muhammad holds strong at the top for boys. Eliana made the biggest leap for girls, jumping 33 spots into the top five. Caleb did the same for boys, also climbing 33 places."
Tucked among these climbers and fallers is a quirky new arrival that’s already breaking the internet: Bean.

Bean, the food-inspired name that has entered the boys’ list at 78 and the girls’ list at 98, making it one of the most unexpected additions of the year.
As noted by The Mirror, it appears alongside similarly unconventional picks Nana and Bump, both landing in the girls’ top 100.

BabyCentre added: “At BabyCentre, we’re always keeping an eye on what’s trending in baby names. As the UK’s most trusted sources for baby name inspo, we’re in a unique spot to spot shifts as they happen. And we never stop counting."

Alongside the playful new additions, other shifts stand out. Dua, Hana, and Anna are all fresh arrivals for girls, while Alexander, Nathaniel, and Zayne have shaken up the boys’ rankings. Meanwhile, Hazel and Evie saw steep declines, and Aiden experienced the biggest drop of all, falling 49 places.
