Marmite is so divisive that it’s become idiomatic for it. Staunch defenders and aggressors froth on either side of the argument, but that impenetrable dark gunk stands unbothered in the middle.
If you’re a fan then you’re probably a big one; slathering it on bread, biscuits, and loved ones with reckless abandon.
You may also keep abreast of the different Marmite varieties that crop up from time to time, such as Marmite Peanut Butter which, inexplicably, vanished from shelves in September 2024.

“I can’t find it in any supermarkets for the last two weeks,” said a Reddit post at the time. “I’ve been to so many and none have it in stock. Any idea if there is an issue?”
“YES!” someone agreed. “I absolutely have the same issue, been to two big Tesco, two big Sainsbury’s, Asda, but they have none on the shelves. I fear the time is up! I’m literally addicted to the stuff.”
Another added: “Just read it's been discontinued. I'm gutted. Tried Marmite and crunchy peanut butter together. Nothing like it. Sad times.”
“Unilever, who own Marmite have discontinued making it owing to poor sales, claimed another. “I'm in a state of utter shock and despair.”
With Marmite fans up and down the country despairing at since having to fashion their own blends of Marmite and peanut butter, social media was awash with fans demanding that Marmite bring the nutty-tangy concoction back.
In these bleak times, we can at last bring some good news to the presumably roughly-50% of you who like Marmite: it’s back.
Shoppers at Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Ocado, and more besides, can get their hands on Marmite Peanut Butter once again, finally putting those 10 months in the wilderness to bed.
You can pick up a jar for £3, which is a touch higher than you might expect for a condiment of its ilk, but that’s no impediment to Marmite fans flocking to the returned prodigal son.
“Adds to basket immediately,” said an Instagram comment.
“Added straight to online order for tomorrow,” said another who’s presumably nose-deep in the stuff by now.

While another proclaimed it to be the ‘best news I’ve heard all year!’ – and, honestly, the competition isn’t that stiff these days – another demanded: “NEVER take this away again”. The hint of menace behind that one might inspire Marmite to do as it’s told.
“Life complete,” said another. It’s always beautiful to see someone find the missing piece of their puzzle, isn’t it?
