We’re a nation of sandwiches and crisps – and the rest of the world dares to sneer at our cuisine!
Find yourself abroad and feeling peckish at midday and you’ll soon discover that precious few nations have figured lunch out quite like we have.
Convenience and portability are abandoned in favour of sit-down meals and faffing about, and all the while you’re dreaming of a meal deal that takes two minutes to buy and five minutes to eat before you can crack on with the rest of your day.

We don’t mess about when it comes to meal deal combinations, either. It’s tough to find half as much variety of crisps when you’re off these shores, and various venerable manufacturers are often devising fresh flavours (or perhaps just some canny marketing ploys) to keep us interested.
There are some ne’er-do-wells out there, of course, who are content with a simply ham, a packet of ready salted and a bottle of Buxton water, but without those captains of blandness we wouldn’t have the low watermark to compare with more refined palates.
If you’re even a notch more adventurous than those opting for that meal deal from hell, Kettle Chips’ latest pair of brand new flavours might pique your interest.
Posting the news to Instagram, the crisp cookers said:
“Are you ready to add a little French flair to your snack time?
“Introducing two NEW gourmet flavours, inspired by @rachelkhooks' culinary adventures through Paris: Brie & Caramelised Onion, [and] Honey Dijon Mustard.
“Handcooked to perfection, these flavours are rich, indulgent, and seriously moreish. Snack like a Parisian - now available in selected UK stores.
“Which flavour are you excited to try?!”
Now, you might be wondering whether a brie and caramelised onion crisp tastes noticeably different to your standard cheese and onion, but let’s put the cynicism aside for just a moment.
What better way to celebrate the UK’s new trade deal with the EU than a packet of French-inspired crisps?
Honey Dijon Mustard sounds pretty spectacular, especially when you consider slipping a few of them inside a sandwich like the closeted Michelin star chef that you are.
Kettle Chips, hand-cooked in Norfolk, also has a promotion running where you could win a trip to France with any pack featuring the promo. Keep an eye out for the red banner and the ‘Chance to win a gourmet trip to France’ message at the top of the packets; you can’t miss it.
