Sometimes all you need to make a bad day better is a sweet treat. And when it’s almost too hot to function? A cool Feast ice cream pulled from the depths of your freezer should more than do the trick.

The moreish, chocolatey stick, initially launched in the early 1970s, made its gallant return in 1983 as the ‘Big Feast’ and has been an ice cream van staple ever since.

Before this year, the Wall’s ice cream featured a solid, chunky chocolate core wrapped in chocolate-flavour ice cream, and a chocolate-flavour coating with crispy pieces.

But the tide is changing, with the British brand recently announcing a major recipe change via Instagram.

In 2026, the Wall’s Feast now contains egg, almonds and hazelnuts, with the company stating anyone with allergies should double-check the packaging and share the new information with ‘anyone who might need to know’.

“We recognise that this means that some people can no longer enjoy Feast Original, but alternatively you can grab the new Feast Caramel which is nut free!”

Other changes include swapping chocolate ice cream for a cool vanilla flavour, and replacing the solid chocolate centre with an inside akin to chocolate spread, such as Nutella, Metro reported.

Some Feast fans have allegedly been scratching their heads in dismay, not only realising that their beloved ice cream has changed, but that the pre-2026 version never actually had nuts to begin with.

In fact, according to the original pre-2026 recipe, the crunchy bits were made of biscuit, not nuts as they are now.

“Hang on! I’ve been eating these for donkeys years, I always presumed the crunchy bits on the outside were hazelnut,” typed one Facebook user.

A second said: “Mmmm I’m sure it was always nuts? I don’t remember biscuit.”

“I dont think Ive had one since about 1987 but I could have sworn it was nuts,” replied a third.

Another remarked: “All the people arguing it’s always been nuts takes me out because a simple Google search tells you it’s been biscuit since 1974.”

Others have expressed their desire for Wall’s Feast to return to its original recipe, with one Facebook user typing: “Huge fan, can’t get them in Oz where I live now.

“Just been home, had a proper one then me mum bought a 4 pack of the above monstrosity! Ice cream change is bearable but the new middle is rank! Outside coating tastes exactly the same tbf.”

Another added: “This is heartbreaking, it's also my favourite, and the chocolate ice cream was the best bit”

If you’re unhappy with the new Feast recipe, then good news: Aldi has an original ‘dupe’ called a ‘Fiesta’ priced at £1.99 per pack of four. Run, don’t walk!
