Gordon Ramsay is known for his fiery kitchen takedowns, Michelin-starred restaurants and brutal honesty on TV - but this weekend, the chef turned his straight-talking style into a life-saving warning for fans: wear your sunscreen.
The 58-year-old revealed that he recently underwent treatment to remove a basal cell carcinoma, a type of non-melanoma skin cancer.
In a candid Instagram post, Ramsay thanked the 'incredible' healthcare workers who acted quickly to treat him, adding he was 'grateful and so appreciative' for their fast work.

Alongside a picture showing a small plaster under his ear, Ramsay urged his followers: “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend."
He also reassured fans with his trademark humour, adding: "I promise you it’s not a face lift - I’d need a refund.”
The comments were quickly flooded with support. TV judge Robert Rinder shared a heart emoji, while Cancer Research UK chimed in to thank Ramsay for raising awareness, reminding followers: "Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”
Basal cell carcinoma, the type of skin cancer Ramsay had treated, is one of the most common forms of non-melanoma skin cancer. According to the NHS, it often develops on parts of the body most exposed to the sun, such as the face, neck and hands. The main symptom is usually a patch of unusual skin or a growth that doesn’t heal.

The condition is generally very treatable if caught early, but the key is prevention. The NHS warns that ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun - and from tanning beds - is the biggest cause of non-melanoma skin cancers.
The best protection is sunscreen, reapplying it regularly and avoiding prolonged exposure in strong sunlight.
It’s a reminder that even global icons aren’t immune to the dangers of UV rays. Ramsay’s message is simple but powerful: a bottle of SPF could make all the difference. And given his influence, fans are already praising him for using his platform to bring attention to a health issue that affects thousands every year.
So whether you’re heading to the beach, having a barbecue, or just stepping out for your morning coffee, take it from Gordon Ramsay - don’t skip the sunscreen.
