Sainsbury's 'disgusting' mince pie sandwich leaves people very confused

A rival supermarket has emerged from the backlash, claiming Sainsbury's 'didn't stop' when it should have

Festive sandwich season is in full swing, and Sainsbury’s has brought an eyebrow-raising offering to the table that some shoppers have described as ‘a hard no’ and ‘truly appalling’.

Retailers, supermarkets, and restaurants across the nation are already gearing up for the Christmas food rush, with McDonald’s confirming a fan favourite was returning for the season, and the ‘first ever’ matcha advent calendar hitting shelves.

Yuletide-inspired drinks are being served at Starbucks and Pret right now, while Coca-Cola has received backlash for using artificial intelligence in its 2025 Christmas advert.

But Sainsbury’s is now hitting headlines with its new festive-inspired meal deal option: a mince pie brioche-style wrap.

The carryout is comprised of creamy crème fraîche, a rich mincemeat-style compote, sweet salted caramel sauce and crunchy shortcake biscuit, wrapped in a soft, brioche-style tortilla wrap.

The so-called ‘festive upgrade’ was revealed via the official Sainsbury’s Instagram account earlier this week, and, as expected, the limited-edition product has already proved divisive with loyal customers.

“Never been so happy I can’t eat gluten,” joked one social media user.

A second commented that the £3.40 lunch option ‘looks truly appalling’ while another wrote: “I love mince pies, but this is a hard no.”

Rival supermarket chain Morrisons also weighed in on the controversial video, writing: “You were so preoccupied with whether or not you could, you didn't stop to think if you should.”

Others, however, seem excited about the mince pie wrap, which is available to purchase as part of the chain’s meal deal, which includes a sandwich, snack and a drink for £3.94.

“These are unreal,” reported an Instagram user.

Another penned: “What! Sounds intriguing.”

One other quipped: "That's disgusting on so many levels, I need to try it."

Love it or loathe it, the Sainsbury’s mince pie wrap is here for the holiday season, alongside other festive sandwiches such as the Turkey Feast and the delicious Shredded Duck and Stuffing brioche roll.

If neither of those morsels tickles your taste buds, there’s also the Brie and Cranberry sandwich, Festive Chicken, Bacon and Stuffing Wrap, and mini pork pies and scotch eggs to munch on, too.

Other new products have already made their way to Sainsbury's shelves nationwide, such as the Freefrom choc orange mini segments and cereal milk and cornflake cookies, which were announced on 8 November.

If you’re on the hunt for an alcohol deal ahead of silly season, then Nectar cardholders can currently take advantage of a major wine deal.

Until 20 December, shoppers can take 25 percent off the price of various wine bottles, as reported by The Independent.

The offer includes a range of wines, including rosé, mulled red wine, and crisp bottles of white. It can be used on delivery or collection orders of six bottles or more.
