If you head down to your local supermarket this month, you may find that the moreish Christmas mince pies, traditional Pantone boxes, and party favourites have already been cleared out and replaced with another themed sweet treat.
Yes that’s right, reports across social media claim that Easter eggs and other tasty surprises are already adorning shelves.
This means that if you’ve been craving some chocolatey goodness in the form of Cadbury Mini Eggs packets, then you will probably be in luck. If not now, then at least in a couple of weeks.
Mini Eggs, introduced in 1967, have become somewhat of an Easter staple, with bars, Easter eggs, and bulk packets available for purchase right now.

According to the Cadbury website, you can purchase a single packet of Mini Eggs, weighing 74g, for £2.36. These roughly include 23 eggs each. You can also order a 24-piece box for £48.

Other items on sale include a 1kg Mini Eggs mega giant sharing costing £22, a 95g chocolate egg for £3.60, and a bulk box of eight 256g bags which will set you back by £52.40.
This year, some people are less than impressed by the price of the Easter indulgence, taking to social media to have their say.

“Not only are Easter chocolates on sale too early they have doubled in price and lowered the weight and changed ingredients,” reported one X user. “Bag of 18 mini eggs £2. What a joke. I have stopped eating chocolate just in a silent protest at the prices that are charged.”
In 2019, packets of Mini Eggs were sold in 80g packets and, according to Wales Online, cost £1.15.
This means the weight has reduced by 7.5 percent, but the price has risen by 105%.
“I f****ng hate this country so much. What do you mean a family bag of mini eggs costs over £6???? A person on minimum wage has to pay an hour of their time to purchase 2 bags of Mini Eggs? Why aren’t the people angrier,” someone else wrote. “F**k this f****ng country I hate the UK.”

"The price of mini eggs is going to equal the price of printer ink soon,” someone else joked.
Another remarked: “By 2027, Cadbury will sell you the concept of a Mini Egg. £1.74 for a bag containing a single atom of chocolate and a note saying ‘Imagine the rest’. Now that's proper #GamesGone shrinkflation – the eggs are on VAR review and ruled offside.”
A spokesperson for Mondelēz International, the company which owns Cadbury, told FOODbible in a comment: “We understand the economic pressures that consumers continue to face and any changes to our product sizes is a last resort for our business. However, as a food producer, we are continuing to experience significantly higher input costs across our supply chain, with ingredients such as cocoa and dairy, which are widely used in our products, costing far more than they have done previously.

"Meanwhile, other costs like energy and transport, also remain high. This means that our products continue to be much more expensive to make and while we have absorbed these costs where possible, we still face considerable challenges.
“As a result, we are having to make carefully considered changes to the recommended promotional price alongside small weight reductions to our Mini Eggs Bags (74g) so that we can continue to provide consumers with the brands they love, without compromising on the great taste and quality they expect.”
