Roman Kemp accidentally ate an Easter treat worth £10,000

The Creme Egg could have been worth a pretty penny, but he only discovered that after he'd scoffed it

The One Show presenter Roman Kemp had a right mare a couple of years ago after eating a Creme Egg worth £10,000 by accident.

Back in 2023, Cadbury ran an Easter Egg hunt where people could buy a Creme Egg and potentially win a hefty cash prize. If shoppers found one of the rare eggs - which were half white chocolate, half milk chocolate - they could claim a special ticket and find out whether their Easter treat was worth £5,000 or £10,000.

However, when one of the special eggs ended up in the hands of Roman Kemp, son of Spandau Ballet bassist and EastEnders star Martin Kemp, he promptly chowed down without realising it could be worth big bucks.

Kemp, now 32, was a host on Capital Breakfast radio at the time, and when he found the egg he posted a picture on Twitter (now X) with the caption: “What is this??? HALF WHITE HALF MILK CHOCOLATE??”

People quickly started pointing out that eating it wasn't the best idea, as he needed a picture of himself with the uneaten Creme Egg to claim the prize.

After clocking all the people telling him that he shouldn't have eaten the egg, he wrote: “I HAVE ALREADY EATEN IT AND PEOPLE ARE SAYING ITS WORTH 10K!?”

He then added: “I HAVE EATEN IT. WHAT DO I DO NOW? HELPPPPPPPPP.”

Sadly for Kemp, the sweet treat left a sour taste in his mouth, as he wrote: “THIS IS NOT FUNNY. IT TASTES LIKE REGRET.”

Online commenters saw the funny side, and didn't shower Kemp with sympathy. One said: “It’s a little bit funny.”

Another wrote: “This has made me laugh more than you would like me to… sorry… but also thank you.”

However, some also thought that Cadbury should make it a little more obvious that people might be holding a prized egg before they scoff their treat: “Tbf, they should put a sticker on each egg or something with the warning.

“You’re the second I’ve heard that has happened to and I’ve only seen one poster promoting it or else I wouldn’t of [sic] known.”

Thankfully for fans of the white chocolate element of the special Creme Egg, you can now buy an entirely white chocolate version whenever you like. It won't be worth £10k, either, so you can enjoy it in peace.
