A Wetherspoons worker has taken to TikTok to share how a breakfast favourite is prepared, and it’s got social media up in arms.
Now, say what you like about the grub on offer at Wetherspoons, but you can’t deny the prices are pretty damn competitive.
In an era of wanton price inflation across everything from energy providers to supermarkets, Wetherspoons has only fractionally increased its prices to keep up with rising costs.
And yet, despite the bargain prices and reasonable quality, there will always be some snobs among us who think they’re too good for a microwaved sausage.
When you’re three pints deep, a bit of sustenance on a blue and white plate is nothing to be sniffed at.

Freshness is a sacrifice you have to be prepared to make when you’re paying such low prices, with all but the steaks and pizzas being re-heated in a microwave or grill. It’s perfectly hygienic and hardly tastes awful, so what’s the problem?
Well, one element of the breakfast menu is cooked in a way that raises a few questions: the humble poached egg.
Crafting a nice and yolky poached egg is a culinary skill that separates the wheat from the chaff. There’s a delicate balance to strike whilst cooking them – it’s all too easy to stiffen up that yolk and ruin the whole show.
With that in mind, this TikTok revelation is hard to wrap one’s head around.
It comes courtesy of Dobby, posting on @dobbysc00chie in 2022, who explained how Wetherspoons handles its poached eggs.
"Me explaining to a customer that they can't have poached eggs as they're pre-poached and are out of stock," says the video caption. Pre-poached!
"I actually never told customers they were pre-poached, I just flat out said no, or offered fried eggs instead."
Knowing how most Wetherspoons menu items are cooked, it’s no surprise that its kitchens lack the finesse for a fresh poached egg. Nevertheless, how on Earth do you pre-poach an egg?
It’s a common question in the video’s comments: "How tf do u get pre poached eggs."
"The highlight of working a ‘Spoons breakfast shift," said another.
When asked why poached eggs were out of stock, another Wetherspoons waiter would say “The poacher is broken” and hope that would end the line of questioning.

Eddie Gershon, a Wetherspoons spokesperson, spoke to LADBible about the revelation: “Wetherspoon uses 100% British Lion Brand free range eggs in its breakfasts, including poached eggs.
“The eggs used in our Eggs Benedict, Miners Benedict and Mushroom Benedict are pre-poached to ensure quality and consistency.
“More than 1.5 million Benedict meals are served across the pubs each year.”
Who knows what kind of wizardry is at work behind the bargain booze. It’s safe to say that the spokesperson’s comment did little to explain just how Wetherspoons manages the culinary trickery.
