How to drink a Pornstar Martini properly has got people confused

If you’re confused by the prosecco shot that comes alongside the iconic cocktail, read on.

If you’re partial to tropical juice but also want something with an added touch of sparkle, then a Pornstar Martini is the ideal cocktail for you.

Passion fruit juice, vanilla, vodka and citrus make for a deliciously refreshing and sneakily boozy beverage, and who doesn’t feel a little fancy when they’ve got half a passion fruit floating in their drink?

They’re usually inexpensive, taste great, and they’re vaguely humorous too, but there’s one element that often has drinkers stumped.

It’s that mysterious shot of prosecco that you’ll get on the side. Nobody’s complaining, but it has got people wondering in which order you drink the snazzy drink.

Abby Matthews, Director of The Cocktail Co, has set the record straight.

"A Pornstar Martini is the perfect combination of passionfruit, vanilla, vodka and citrus, so it has a very sweet yet tangy flavour,” she told The Spirits Business.

"It is served best with a Prosecco chaser and garnished with half a passionfruit."

"It’s usually a milder drink that is designed to freshen the palette," she said. "Little do people know, the Prosecco shot should actually be sipped before drinking the Pornstar Martini, to cleanse the palette before enjoying the cocktail."

So there you have it: the prosecco is there to prime your mouth for the Pornstar Martini, ensuring you can get the full whack of its tropical flavours.

"If you’ve been shotting the Prosecco before, after, or even pouring it in - you’re doing it wrong!” continued Matthews.

"Pouring the Prosecco can actually ruin the flavours - it alters the taste as it unbalances how the ingredients complement each other."

Matthews finished: "And drinking it after - well, who’d want to cleanse their palate after such a delicious drink?"

It’s fertile ground for a second round, you might say.
