Earning an honest bob as a Deliveroo driver is easier said than done.
If you live in a major city then the chances are you’ve seen the lengths to which they’ll go to maximise their profits.
Many of their bicycles are rigged with e-bike motors and batteries that aren’t exactly road-legal, and deliveries are typically being more expeditious in wealthier areas or when a tip is involved.
Even with speed and tactically positioning in place, there’s a dog-eat-dog element to accepting orders and the pay is meagre enough that you need to whip through them quickly to get a decent hourly rate.

It turns out that, if you want to maximise your earnings as a Deliveroo rider, you might be better off in a minor city rather than the likes of London, Manchester, or Birmingham.
A driver, based in Exeter whilst studying at the university, was working for the firm back in December 2022 and earned a whopping £294.66 in one shift.
The shift, undertaken on 17 December 2022 and in the run-up to Christmas, involved 56 orders that averaged at £5.26 per delivery.
In the payment breakdown, £253.75 came from regular order fees, with extras clocking up to £35.91.
There was also an additional £5 in tips and, to be honest, the people of Exeter want to have a word with themselves on this one. A week before Christmas, and the guy only got a fiver in tips from 56 orders?
The driver did note in the comments, however, that he could receive ‘some added tips in the next few days' whilst noting he wasn’t getting tipped 'very often unfortunately'.
He also explained how he managed to whip through so many orders whilst relying on an e-bike battery.
"Started off with my E-bike then switched to hired E-bike for around 10 hours (£18) while my bike was charging,” he said. “Finished off with my bike again for the final few hours."
He had a good run of back-to-back orders as well, with a fresh one popping up each time he completed one.
The takings went down well on Reddit, with several commenters raving about the impressive haul.
"That's a lot! Congrats mate,” said one.

"8:30 until midnight. Damn boiiii. That’s impressive. Works out to be about £18 an hour (minus the £18 for the bike hire). Hopefully get some tips in over the next few days too. Keep it up buddy," added another.
"Fantastic job,” chimed a third. “Well done!"
"Congratulations mate, well done! Hard work pays off," said yet another.
As hourly rates go, that’s a pretty solid one.
