Meghan Markle defended after being slammed for 'tone deaf' rosé launch

The Duchess of Sussex is under fire for what some deem to be an ill-timed launch.

Meghan Markle can scarcely breathe without someone jumping down her throat, and so it’s proven once again with the release of her first wines under the ‘As Ever’ brand.

The launch fell on July 1st, with the As Ever-branded Napa Valley Rosé available at wine.asever.com for $30 (£22) per bottle. It’s sold in three-piece sets, half cases and full cases that top out at $300 (£219).

The wine is described as 'crisp, pale in colour, and effortlessly elegant', making it sound like the perfect summer tipple - but some royal fans had a bone to pick.

Indeed, the timing of the announcement ruffled a few feathers, with plenty of people taking to social media to air their grievances.

“Meghan Markle chose to release a rosé wine on Princess Diana’s birthday, the same Diana who died in a crash involving a drunk driver,” fumed one X user in a lengthy diatribe. “That decision is not just inappropriate. It is disturbing. It shows a complete lack of judgment, empathy, and basic human decency.”

They continued: “I am disgusted that Harry allowed this to happen. I am sickened by the blatant disrespect for Diana’s memory. This was not a mistake. It was a deliberate decision made with full awareness. I am physically nauseated.

“They’ve crossed every line. And still, they dig lower. There is truly nothing Meghan Markle won’t exploit for money, fame, or attention not even the tragic death of the woman whose legacy she’s been leeching off from day one. It’s not just sickening, it’s evil.”

As reactions go, this heavily-trimmed-down one was pretty emphatic to say the least.

Someone responded, saying: ““That just isn't true. Diana was a fun loving person but the fun was soon gone because of her husband's behaviour. She would have loved to be with Harry and his family and have a glass of Meghan's Rose'. I can see her head go back and laughing.”

The oppobrium, which again seems to trigger any time Meghan Markle dares to speak without blessing the soul of the mother-in-law whom she never got to meet, was thankfully mitigated somewhat by Redditors whose interest was piqued by Markle’s personally-selected wines.

“Good for her. If I ever see it at a grocery store I will also try it,” said one.

“And yet you haven't even tried it,” said one in response to someone assuming the wine would be low-quality. “Go to the Unhinged Meghan snark page and enjoy the bullying frenzy amongst the crazies if that's what you want to do with your life.”

“I bought it. I know it’s a gimmick. I have spent money on stupider things and at least I’ll hopefully get a buzz when all things are said and done,” said another who just wants a nice glass of plonk.

“So many sour grapes here - and I'm not talking about the wine,” said another who was presumably defending Markle from the litany of wilfully-outraged comments.
