Kristin Davis admitted she didn’t eat ‘any real food’ other than chocolate in the early days of filming Sex and the City, revealing her lifestyle wasn’t ‘healthy’ and how a health practitioner tried to step in to help her.
Between June 1998 and February 2004, Davis, 61, starred as Charlotte York, a Smith College alumna who initially worked as an art dealer and gallery curator in SoHo.
During her time on SATC, York gets married twice in her search for her ‘knight in shining armour’, continuously disapproves of her friend Samantha Jones’ sexual escapades, and helps central character Carrie Bradshaw get out of debt by giving her a massive engagement ring.

As well as the core six series show, Davis reprised her character in the spin-off movies, and HBO Max’s Just Like That…

Recalling the early days of filming on her podcast, Are You a Charlotte?, the Melrose Place legend admitted she wasn’t in a good place with her eating habits.
“There was a time earlier in the show where you can see my ribs — like I had dieted. It was like later in the season, and it was one of those hot summers, and I just remember I just ate M&Ms,” she recalled.
“I just ate M&Ms like for a couple weeks. I don’t know why I didn’t lose my mind or whatever, and like I have no breasts left, it’s just like bones.”
The HBO icon clarified: “What I mean is that I wasn’t eating any real food.
“It wasn’t healthy. And I did go to this acupuncturist one time. He was like, ‘Don’t put that in your mouth.’ And I was like, ‘Why not? It’s all I eat.’

“Because I had read that ballet dancers smoke cigarettes and eat candy bars,’ Davis continued. “So I was like, ‘Well, if they can do it, I can do it.’ But I wasn’t smoking a cigarette.”
The Broadway actress, who had her on-screen husband Evan Handler on the episode, claimed she felt as if the costume department on Sex and the City was initially ‘frustrated’ by her curves.
“I’ve never been straight, nothing, no amount of dieting.”
Handler, who initially joined SATC as Davis’ divorce lawyer Harry Goldenblatt in 2002, said that he faced comments from the public about his weight during his time on the programme.
He alleged that viewers would approach him in New York City and remark that he looked ‘so much fatter on the show’.

Davis added: “They would say it to me as well.”
“Evan, for years and years, this is all they would say to me. But yes, I went through that for quite some time also. Yes, it’s very difficult,” the mother-of-two added.
