Clarkson’s Farm, a runaway hit on Amazon Prime, is midway through its fourth season.
Following the travails of former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson’s farming venture, it’s won the hearts of millions of fans thanks to its honest portrayal of farming’s immense challenges and its loveable cast of farmhands and Clarkson wranglers.
In season four, we get a behind-the-scenes look at Clarkson’s branch-out to the world of village pubs, another notoriously difficult way to earn some scratch in the countryside.

The Farmer’s Dog, located in Asthall near Burford, opened in August 2024 to fans queuing around the village. Since then it seems the pub’s gone from strength to strength, pulling in plenty of punters whilst selling food and drink that’s almost exclusively sourced in the UK.
There are some exceptions, such as the quinine needed for its gin and tonics, but by and large you can trust that everything flogged at The Farmer’s Dog is supporting British businesses.
With that commitment to local sourcing, prices are a touch higher than you might expect at other establishments. The cynic in you might suggest that the allure of it being Jeremy Clarkson’s pub has some part to play in the menu premiums, but that’s just healthy conjecture.
The pricing strategy has been a point of contention for social media commentators, and one in particular has won themselves a ban from The Farmer’s Dog courtesy of the landlord himself.
“Thought @JeremyClarkson wanted an affordable pub for customers,” said one social media comment. “£24 for pie and veg is a bit much.”
To that, Clarkson replied: “Have you seen beef prices right now? If you could make it for less, I'll give you a job.”
He continued: “Most [cows] come from other farmers in the area and we pay a premium. We are here to back British farming. If you don't want to do that, fine. Enjoy your chlorine."
It was another X user that drew the ban from Clarkson, however.

“Dead weight for British beef is far too expensive £6.89/kg for R4L down from the record high £6.98/kg earlier in the month,” said @devonboy3410. “I can't wait till we get US beef cuts here because British beef industry is now taking the p*** at those prices.”
Clarkson replied: “You are now banned from the pub.”
Beef prices have indeed shot up in the UK recently, with a shortage on UK beef supply being compounded by a Foot and Mouth outbreak in Europe. The suggestion that the answer is to lean on beef from the US seems to have been too much for Clarkson to tolerate.
