An Ohio woman was left feeling 'stressed' and 'overwhelmed' after being charged $1,021.50 for a Subway order of just three sandwiches.
Last year, Letitia Bishop, from Columbus, Ohio, stopped at Thorntons gas station on Winchester Pike to get food from the Subway located there.
She ordered three sandwiches in total, but checking the receipt after the purchase realised that she had been massively overcharged, having paid $1,010 for just one of the sandwiches.

"There’s no way, unless it’s wrapped in gold or from some other place. I would never pay $1,010 for a Subway sandwich,” Bishop told ABC 6's On Your Side about the eye-watering receipt, with recent reports saying she has now been refunded.
Speaking last year, she recounted going back to the Subway shop in the station only to find it closed, and said she was told to contact Subway's corporate office, which she says she did, but with no success.
Bishop said at the time: "I’m just trying to make ends meet at this point. Stressed, overwhelmed - I couldn’t get groceries at one point because my account was negative."
Lee Anne Lanigan, the director of consumer relations and investigations from the Better Business Bureau, was quoted in 2024 as offering the following advice to Bishop: "Another route is she can use the resources we have here at the Better Business Bureau, our dispute resolution process."

"She could file a complaint with the Cromwell Connecticut Business Bureau, where Subway is an accredited business, which they pledge to respond to any complaints brought to their attention."
"She could [go] to her bank and say, 'Here’s my receipt, and here’s where you gave them a thousand dollars. If you can’t make this right for me I’m willing to file a fraud affidavit."
But her luck has changed, as Business Insider reported in February last year that Bishop has indeed finally received a refund from a Thorntons regional manager.
Subway has become hugely popular since its inception in 1965, and in the UK, a classic, 6-inch BMT (Biggest, Meatiest, Tastiest) will cost you around £7.68, unless you throw in some extras, of course.
But even with extras, that's still a lot more sensible than the bill Bishop got.
Subway has been contacted for comment.
