McDonald’s fans shocked after realising what Sweet 'N Sour sauce is actually made from

It involves from a key ingredient you'd have never seen coming...

When it comes to eateries, McDonald’s is perhaps the great leveller. No matter who you are, where you’re from, or whether you’ve got steak at home, there’s a good chance you’re partial to some of Ronald McDonald’s cuisine.

You’ve probably got a go-to order, too.

But often if you've been enjoying something for years, you're likely not to question it - even though there may be an unexpected revelation lurking, as is the case with the delicious Sweet ‘N Sour dip.

Whether that's a good or bad revelation is down to you, although there's one man who was NOT happy at all...

It's a good idea to keep tabs on what’s going into your food, especially in this modern era of convenient and cheaply-made snacks, but if you’re digging into the ingredients of a vibrant orange and translucent liquid then you can’t be surprised when you find a few unusual inclusions.

Nevertheless, plenty of McDonald’s lovers have been stunned to see what they’ve been dipping their nuggets and more into after the bombshell was delivered by a pair of Aussie radio hosts.

Jase and Lauren is a breakfast radio show on Nova 100 and is hosted by Lauren Phillips and Jason 'Jase' Hawkins.

In the video clip, which first surfaced on TikTok in 2022, Lauren unwittingly goes on to ruin Jase's favourite order - an otherwise perfect combo of McNuggets with Sweet ‘N Sour sauce.

“Jason, you need to get into those nuggets and get into, in particular, your favourite sauce,” she said.

“Today was a good day,” he naively says as he’s handed his fate.

“Talk me through the palate, there,” says Lauren.

“Sweet… yet sour,” says Jason after a moment’s thought.

“Would you believe, it is actually apricot flavour?” Lauren explains.

A clearly heartbroken Jason stops still, mid-chew, and then swiftly discards the remains whilst complaining that he 'hates apricots'.

“I can taste the apricot now,” he says.

Is there any greater betrayal than finding out your fast food has got some fruit in it?

“You have ruined my favourite sauce,” said one horrified person in the comments.

“I can now never have sweet and sour sauce again,” said another person.

Another said: “My husband is the same, hates apricot. Despises apricot chicken the most too. Haha I can’t wait to tell him.”

In response, McDonald’s official Australian TikTok account tried to douse the flames. Or fan them, perhaps.

"Hear me out, try dipping your Soft Serve in Sweet and Sour Sauce," it said.

Plenty more users were surprised that the apricot revelation was news to some people.

“How do people not know this?” one asked person incredulously.

Another chimed in: “Sweet n Sour is essentially Apricot jam and white vinegar.”

So now you know.
