McDonald’s often tinkers with its menu, usually by shuffling a few options out to make way for some new or returning favourites. On occasion Ronald will grace us with an upgrade on a popular item, and for one quiet favourite in the Maccies community that’s exactly what’s happened.
It’s not a 40-box of McNuggets. It’s not a Double Big Arch. It’s not a room temperature apple pie.
For some regular McDonald’s diners, it’s an upgrade on what might be their last choice on the menu.

At £5.29, weighing in at 453 calories, it’s the underdog from underwater: the Double Filet-o-Fish!
It’s safe to say that the fans of this underrated menu item’s single-filet version have come out of the woodwork to rave about the change.
“Today is the day when the prayer of all fillet o fish die heart fans has been answered!” said one Reddit user, labelling the new release 'f**king genius'.
“A double filet-o-fish being launched and possibly made a permanent item on the menu. I am over the moon and while the whole full frontal shot of the burger has been a popular post today all across the UK, let’s not forget just how sensational the middle looks too with it submerged in the tartar sauce.”
“It’s the underdog of all sandwiches and I do think it’s long deserved this amount of love from the fast food community,” said another who can’t wait to tuck into that double fish portion.

Another shared: “My wife is pescatarian and buys them. A couple of times a year she would buy two and make her own double one lol. She’s doomed now, dooooooomed!”
“I’ve only recently gotten into the filet-o-fish,” admitted one recent convert. “Despite it having been around forever I still worry that any day it’s going to be taken off the menu. I don’t know anyone else who has ever had one or would even consider having one.”
“Wait people buy the filet-o-fish enough that they made a double?” asked another sharing a relatively common sentiment. “I literally know no one that has ever bought one.”

Someone countered: “It’s actually really nice, the steamed buns are a nice change too. I’m not a massive fan of the beef burger unless it’s a big tasty, so this is a nice alternative to the McChicken.”
“When I worked at McDonald's I was surprised at how popular they were,” added a former McDonald’s employee. “If made properly and fresh they're actually really damn good.”
Another simply said: “The fish to bun ratio has been perfected.”
