Burger King Japan launches controversial 1,876-calorie Baby Body Burger

The heart attack fast lane is now open.

Burgers are so inescapably popular that you’d think innovations in the space would be slowing down.

McDonald’s is particularly good at surprising us with new takes on the old classic, with recent genius coming in the guise of the Philly Cheese Stack, the Big Arch, and the new chicken burger options in collaboration with Frank’s RedHot.

Of course, other big names in the burger game aren’t likely to rest on their laurels while McDonald’s updates its menu every five minutes, and Burger King is no exception.

It’s latest creative output for the world of burgers is more on the side of maximalism than true invention, but it’s a sight to behold nevertheless.

Exclusive to Japan, Burger has just announced the launch of a new burger in collaboration with the Japan Sumo Association: the ‘Baby Body Burger’.

This absolute mountain of a burger includes five flame-grilled 100% beef patties, and it will be available to Japanese customers for a limited time from 11 July 2025.

“Born from a collaboration between Burger King and the Japan Sumo Association!” said Burger King Japan in a Google-translated X post.

“The 'BABY BODY BURGER' is now available, a massive, 'Yokozuna-class' burger made with five flame-grilled 100% beef patties!”

At 1,876 calories a pop, this burger will more than see off most people’s caloric intake needs for a full day. Sumo wrestlers might polish one off as a snack, but regular punters might struggle to keep the whole thing down if they tackle it in the recommended one sitting.

“That's crazy,” said one X user in response to the news. "‘Flesh and flesh collide in practice’. Who came up with this catchphrase and who gave the OK? A genius!” It’s unclear whether something has been lost in translation with the ‘Flesh and flesh…’ bit, but you get idea.

“‘Collaboration with the Japan Sumo Association’. Has there ever been such a bold high-calorie declaration...? 5 patties, 668g, 1876kcal - is that sane?” asked another.

Along with the five patties, the burger comes with four slices of cheddar cheese, four bacon strips, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and a tangy sauce.

Standing at just shy of 1,900 calories, it’s surely Burger King’s most calorific menu option ever. In the US, a nation renowned for its big portions and penchant for burgers, Burger’s King’s most calorific option is the 1,350-calories Triple Whopper with Bacon & Cheese.

It will cost ¥2,590 (£13.05) for the standalone burger, and if you can stomach fries and a drink with it then you’ll pay ¥2,890 (£14.56) for the privilege.

“I can't open my mouth that wide,” quipped one Redditor.

“Of course, I live in Japan, but I'm not gonna take that, it's a total disaster,” opined another.

Another added: “Finally, they brought in some decent grub.”

Reckon you could stomach this monster?
